Q: Can you put these in anywhere (that has electricity) or does it have to go in a can? my house has similar low-profile downlights but no can

Technically this product is designed to be installed into cans, as the clips will create a secure connection to inside the can. While you would only need the female Edison socket to power the unit, we would recommend to follow the recommend usage of it, but you could use it without if you wanted to. I would advise caution however. Without the unit securing into a housing, there could be risk that it were fall. Additionally, if it were to fail, that may cause issues with the warranty if its determined to have failed due to not using per the instructions.
