Simple yet stylish
We bought this as a replacement for my elderly Dad. It is so simple to use with its larger keys and its bright, clear screen also makes reading his messages much easier too. After years of protests claiming, "Argh i don't need that Internet thingy" he is loving the fact he can now video call the family and at 77 is finally learning how to surf the web on his new favourite thing. The option of using the charging cradle is another great feature making it so much easier for him to charge his phone, no more fiddling with wires.Another great feature he finds very useful is the closed phone display. Now he has constant easy access to the time and the date.Lastly we would like to mention how sturdy and stylish this is.Well done Doro this is a great little phone!

Not as good as it's predecessor
I purchased the previous model of this DORO phone twice over a period of 5 years for my 70 yr old dad. The one basically without Wifi. He loved it and found it so easy to use. This year I thought of giving him this upgraded one with internet as he's basically so used to this phone interface. But to my greatest disappointment, this phone is so SLOW as hell. The user interface is so much more complicated. At first I thought it was just a matter of getting use to it but oh boy!, I tried it myself and found it frustrating to navigate and send a message - let alone using WhatsApp which is an epic disaster on this phone. I'm from a Software background and I found it hard to use!

Good and basic Flip Phone with Whatsapp
I received this phone yesterday. I have to say that I am enjoying it so far. I got the phone because I want to stop my dependency on Smartphones and just want a basic phone for calls and texts. The phone has good sound for ringtones and phone calls sound loud and clear compared to my last brick phone. Phone feels well built, I like the keypad.I specifically chose this phone because it has WhatsApp voice and video calls. I am very happy it has that function as it's the only function I miss from a Smartphone.I did experience a glitch with WhatsApp initially where the screen wouldn't scroll low enough to accept Terms and Conditions. Was very worried I wouldn't be able to use WhatsApp. I did a complete phone reset and that fixed it and I was then able to scroll down to accept Terms and Conditions. Apart from that WhatsApp is working fine apart from that.Apart from WhatsApp, the phone only has Facebook which I disabled. There are no other apps such a YouTube or anything else and no Store to download apps from.If you don't want distractions such as Social Media and just want a basic phone for calling and texting - then this is a great phone. Then phone does have 4G which is great. Some other functions the phone has are basic useful tools - Calendar, Calculator, voice recorder, notes, torch, email, web browser, alarm clock, camera, FM radio. Nothing too fancy or distracting. The camera is bad, don't expect anything good from it. I didn't get the phone for the camera so I don't care. It's good enough for Video calling I guess. The FM radio sounds loud and clear. Also you can add some music to the phone if you wish to have something more than just the radio.Again cannot download any apps like Spotify etc.I do not need to use the Response button, as I'm not elderly. Have not tested out that function. It is good for the elderly but I wish I could disable it so I don't see it in my menu.Overall I am happy with the phone, loving the simplicity.

Great sound quality for the hard of hearing
Bought for my father who is in his 80s and is very hard of hearing and he confirms that the sound quality is very good and he can hear callers with much greater clarity. The battery life is good and the layout of the phone is clear and simple to use. My father only uses the phone for calling and texting so this provides everything he needs but with a 4G compatible phone so no problems with using the phone in the future. The texting process has taken a bit of time to get used to but otherwise fine. We have received helpful assistance from the Doro team, who have sent full instructions and a 2 year guarantee, so a great phone and a good customer service experience too.

Falls between two stools
I have had to upgrade the old Doro that has worked well for my elderly relative for years, because it is necessary to get one that did 4G. The old one was 3G only. So I was expecting a somewhat similar replacement. This is definitely not that, and its not suitable for the same users. This is one to avoid. Its build quality is excellent, as usual with Doro, but the problem is with the concept. It has wifi, email and a web browser, so it has at least basic smartphone functions. But the screen is too tiny to be able to use the browser, and the processor too slow to make this viable. And the idea of doing email with that screen and that keypad is ludicrous. However the price of the additional functionality over and above what was on the old Doro flip phones for the elderly is increased complexity and cascading menus to do anything. Its also lost the speed dial buttons on the keypad, which was a really useful thing for the elderly who probably have a a couple of relatives or close contacts they call regularly. And the price is also reduced battery life. Long battery life was another very valuable feature of the old ones.I would not give this to an elderly relative. Compared to the earlier models its been made more complicated without being more useful. There are other simpler Doros, or I would go for the Nokia flip which is not trying to be anything but a feature phone. This is trying to do some of the things that a smart phone does, failing, and in the process impairing its basic functionality for the very people who are supposedly the target market. Its a great pity. The earlier Doros were exactly what was needed, but in the effort to introduce more unecessary features they have messed up ease of use of the vital ones.
