I'm the cold brew master now!
Saving money by making my own cold brew! Dead simple to use and fantastic results! I like to make my own sweet cream by adding vanilla beans to half and half with a bit of sugar to add to the cold brew! Best part of my summer coffee routine! Side effects have been extra energy and use of exclamation points but completely worth it! Will buy more as Xmas gifts for my sleepy friend and family!

It does a good but not amazing job of filtering out sediment
It does a good but not amazing job of filtering out sediment. I suggest not tapping out the grounds and it squeezing the sides of the mesh ever.To remove grounds, shake it into the trash and then rinse the remaining grounds into the drain.I don't really wash it but once every couple of days, because it's constantly in a rotation of brewing coffee. No issues with this method. Just have clean hands when you touch it.To brew coffee:- 64 oz mason jar- 11 level tablespoons of coffee- Generous shaking of salt in the grounds - counters the bitterness taste sense of the tongue- Run filtered water in a gentle stream through the grounds and filter and salt until the jar is maximally full less a fingernail's width (so a bit more than the 64 oz line)Using a grind that's just shy of the most coarse grind on a store grinder, I get sediment as shown in my pics. The only way to be sediment-free is to use a sock filter and I consider that to be too high maintenance. The sediment doesn't get in your cup at all - just don't slosh the jar around, and leave about a centimeter of coffee at the end and discard it (my overfilling is to account for this waste). So overall this does the job it's supposed to. Just brew properly and be very gentle, not squeezing, tapping, or scrubbing hard.- For cleaning, I coat it with some suds and gently stroke it with a scouring brush.- Coffee is Cameron's medium Nicaragua roast from Costco ground in store.- Dark roast coffee is not necessary, and it's not absolutely mandatory to use a coarse grind - I've used McDonald's light breakfast blend. It just requires you be more careful and gentle with the grounds to minimize sediment and bitterness

Worked Great in my 64oz Ball Jar Wide Mouth! Taste like Iced Espresso Latte!
Okay, this was the first time I have made Cold Brew Coffee. It turned out so good! We typically drink pour over coffee using a Hario and we grind our Starbucks House Blend Medium Roast Beans. It's been good, but with the weather getting hot I have been craving iced coffee. So, I ordered this cold brew basket, I ground up a little over 1 1/2 Cups of course coffee, put it in the basket and filled the 64oz jar with filtered water. I let it sit on the counter for 15 hours. I ended up with an iced cold brew coffee that tasted as if I went to Starbucks and ordered an iced vanilla latte! I used Davinci vanilla syrup and whole organic milk and no joke it taste just like espresso coffee. The next brew batch, I am using 2 cups of ground coffee for a more concentrated coffee. We buy the 40oz Starbucks beans from Sam's. I found the basket to be just fine for this purpose and it even came with a silicone ring to go around the top edge of the basket. I also bought a lid with a flip cap for the wide mouth jar and it works beautifully to pour the coffee with. Another reviewer had mentioned to use a wide mouth canning funnel to pour the coffee grounds into the basket while it is in the jar and that worked really well and saved a lot of mess.

Well-conceived device makes a delicious brew
Cold brew is a whole different world from any process using heat for extraction. Flavors are less acidic, more fruity and the caffeine content is robust. I have been diluting batches with 3oz water for every 4oz of brew.I've seen a lot of complaints about grit in the coffee and it's true that if you have any fine grounds they can get through the filter. Same is true of a gold filter in a drip machine, a french press or percolator.I've seen some complaints that the coffee is 'weak.' Unless one does not steep long enough or does not stir as directed, I don't think 'weak' is the right word. The flavor profile is significantly different from coffee extracted with heat, but there is plenty of flavor.Stirring as per the instructions can be difficult as the wet grounds are very thick. Turning the jar upside-down before stirring will help -- and do a bit of the stirring for you.Filter cleans easily and fits like a glove in a 64oz canning jar.

Well worth it.
I have been using a 32 ounce French press to make my cold brew, so when I saw this filter I knew that I had to buy it. I bought the quart size and the 1/2 gallon size. I used the 1/2 gallon size first, following the instructions. The filter was so easy to use! Once the coffee was done brewing I took the filter out. I expected it to be heavy and full of water, but it wasn't. The filter didn't really need a lot of time to drain. Once drained, it was very easy to dump out the grounds in the trash. Tip for rose growers, use the grounds as compost around your rose bushes. They love it!I was expecting a lot of silt in the bottom of the jar, but there wasn't. I filtered the cold brew through a paper filter in my coffee maker because I know even a little bit of silt will result in off flavors. Most of the 1/2 gallon has already been consumed by my fiancé. He likes the availability of a cup of coffee while he's waiting for a pot to brew in the coffee maker.Note: It's very helpful to have a canning jar funnel to make it easier to fill without spilling coffee everywhere.

Great filter for cold brew
I've been making cold brew for a couple years now. I originally was just using 3 regular sized mason jars, after which I would hand strain the grounds using 3 separate filters (I haven't tried a French press or drip over method yet, so far I'm content with the immersion method). This filter has taken several steps out of that process. The filter mesh is very fine and only the smallest grit gets through and settled on the bottom of the jar. I do like to run it through my metal coffee filter one last time after brewing to make sure all the grit is out, but overall this has really simplified the process.

Overpriced and flimsy
The main issue is the mesh has no mechanical connection to the top retention ring. I found this out before the first use. While cleaning it, it came apart and in the process of fitting back together I managed to crumple the main mesh. It's a good idea on paper but it is poorly executed. Lastly the price is ridiculous considering what you actually get. Oh well, live and learn.
