Whiskey Morning Coffee: Bourbon Barrel Aged Decaf (Ground)

I have had barell aged coffee from Mcmenamins, a local brewery and coffee roaster, which is amazing. I have recently cut way back on the caffeine and wanted something similar without the buzz. This definitely does the trick. I like a lot of cream and some stevia with it.

There is a block for Roasted Date but that was blank. They also didn’t have Whole Bean (or Ground) checked but that is easy to figure out.I really liked another product of theirs so did not have any reservations about getting the decaffeinated version of this. Search for Alton Brown’s Good Eats episode on coffee any there are a few sentences about why decaffeinated coffee sells for the same prices as regular despite the additional processing required.There definitely is a very strong taste of a whiskey/bourbon barrel in this. Far more than I would have thought. I could not smell this much until after brewing although I checked before and after grinding.The taste is not directly of the no longer present aging alcohol but this definitely has a taste that one would guess that a long used aging barrel might taste. This was a bit too strong for my liking but is what they advertised or described.I also had to send a message to them before the first brew to verify the ratio of ground beans to water and the seller responded within a couple of hours despite being near the end of the business day. This was the expected 2 tablespoons per 6 ounces of water. I did not want to guess wrong and develop an unfavorable impression as a result of guessing wrong.To me, this really requires creamer or a flavored creamer. The flavor of the barrel aging is just a bit too much for me but, again, this is what they advertised and described so I cannot find fault with that. This would be something that might be nice to spring on select guests or for an occasional change.

When you open this bag of Whiskey Morning Coffee, you can instantly smell the bourbon from the barrels that were used to age the beans. But when you brew it, there is no bourbon flavor in the coffee. But this coffee is delicious. It's one of the best decaf coffees I have tried. The flavor is very rich and better than most coffees I have had that were not decaf. I wish the bag was larger than 10 ounces. I will definitely be ordering more of this coffee. It's perfect for those occasions when you want to drink some coffee with your dinner.

I ground up one round of these beans...and the coffee was awful. I threw the rest of them out. It tasted like plastic...I was really hoping for that bourbon flavor...not even close.

Finding a decent flavored decaf coffee is not always easy, finding one that tastes good is even harder. Whiskey Morning Coffee just made it easier to find a great tasting cup of coffee. The coffee is aromatic, you get a whiff of the whiskey and woodsy scent when you first open the bag. There is nothing like fresh brewed coffee, I loved that this coffee did not taste like decaf, they did not sacrifice flavor to decaffeinate this coffee which makes me very happy. This is a top quality coffee and that quality is reflected in every sip of deliciousness.

I found this to be fresh & flavorful with my first purchase. Wonderful aroma. Everyone agreed so I re-ordered it. My second purchase was the total opposite experience. Smelled awful and tasted completely stale. No one wanted it so it was a complete waste of good money. I would give this another try but I feel I can't justify spending this much (it is a pricey luxury) on a crap shoot. And especially since the price has even increased since I first ordered it less than 2 months ago.

When I saw this I wasn't exactly sure what it meant. Beans aged in bourbon barrels? I decided to give it a try & I'm happy that I did. When you open the bag the whiskey smell is strong & sort of overpowered the smell of the coffee but when you brew it the whiskey smell dissipates and you're left with a fine tasting cup of deaf coffee. The coffee is medium roasted and has a very nice smooth and balanced flavor, perfect for relaxing after work. I can heartedly recommend this coffee.
