Green Lantern 2: Horatius

Wonderful Green Lantern Story
This and the previous TPB stories may be my favorite arc of stories focusing on the green lanterns. Jo Mullein is so cool in these stories. Awesome character! She is given a significant role and it works. She might be my favorite Green Lantern. The Jessica Cruz story arc is strong. Simon Baz also has a significant role and it makes me like his character a lot. John Stewart’s story and culmination (Emerald Knight) is fantastic. Great job! I can really see his character now as a central pillar in the DC universe. I love that John Stewart is no longer just the guy who has overcome heartbreak and become an incredible hero but that he is now this…the person who is the embodiment of superheroes. He is Superman. He is Batman. He is THE Green Lantern.I hope they continue in this direction.

A mixed John Stewart Green Lantern run.
I’ve been a major GL fan since Geoff Johns took over the franchise, and since he’s left we’ve had decent runs with Robert Venditti, Cullen Bunn and Sam humphries. Even Grant Morrison who took a strange approach to the character was enjoyable enough. But now Geoffrey Throne has finished his GL run (I don’t know if he is coming back, let’s just pretend he isn’t) and it’s not bad.The initial plot is something we’ve seen million times if you’ve been reading Green Lantern for a long time, the central battery is destroyed and someone close to corps are behind it. But what makes this interesting is politics thrown in here, if you have been reading the current state of Superman you would have known that he somehow “United” the galaxy. And now Geoffrey Throne plays into idea of “where do we go from here”. And I like that, yeah it’s nice that we finally got everyone in the room to talk, but who’s actually going to get them to listen to each other. That person is John Stewart. But while everything starts off interesting it becomes a bit of mess towards the end, the positives of his run is that Jo Mullien plays a major part in this story as one of the last lanterns investing what happened to the battery. But that’s pretty much it, afterwards he plays the “famous” lantern troupe where <insert> lantern becomes all powerful. Which is something he criticized other lantern writers doing. And the day is saved… while this story could’ve been about John Stewart coming back and saving the day with just his will and being awesome (pretty much all Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner stories) he goes straight into something that doesn’t make any sense. And at the end of day it makes John Stewart less interesting.Overall it’s okay but Clearly Geoffrey Throne came in with agenda and that was to push John Stewart while making everyone weak in the process, which wasn’t what Geoff Johns did. Yeah he claimed Hal Jordan was the “greatest lantern” but he didn’t make the other characters job to him. He made everyone important again. And I think D.C comics and Geoffrey Thorne came in throwing that away.
