The Definitive Edition
I was waiting, I know not how long, but waiting for what seemed an eternity.. and then on than cold and windy morning I heard the ominous sound of my front gate opening... creaking like the sound of chains being stretched to breaking point. My heart beat quickened as I heard a THUD.. THUD... THUD.. of footsteps coming down the lawn... Then all was silent. I strained my sense, on the edge of my seat, but all I could hear was the foreboding sense of dread creeping down my legs like yellow water... And then it happened. A package came through the door. Inside, I knew what it was. I've always known. You may think me mad or deluded if you had heard me, scrambling to the door and ripping open the cardboard which imprisoned my treasure. I laughed manically at the delicious thoughts of tentacles and unspeakable things from the depths.. and yes! Here it was... The Book. It was now mine!

Bad layout, tiny fonts
The layout makes the book essentially unreadable. Tiny fonts on large pages with very small spacing.

Let down.
Was led to beleive the book was in the "normal" size/shape for a novel, smallish and fat. Arrived today in the shape of a school textbook, straight away I didn't want it. Opened up the book to nothing but a list of the stories. The print inside is also rediculously small and just plain irritating to even look at. No header at the top of either page to let you know what story you're currently reading or flicking through, and top top it all off, there isn't a single space after any of the full stops in any of the stories ? lol what an insult to Lovecraft and fans of his work, absolutely terrible effort from Pretorian Books.Wouldn't reccomend to anyone for love nor money.

Beautiful book.
The picture on the front appears to be a paper or card cut-out stuck onto the leather. Not sure if it's meant to be peeled off or what. Doesn't detract from how nice the book is, though. Apparently it's unabridged, so you'll get more racism than in a lot of re-prints. It's unpleasant but more authentic than the sanitised versions often circulated. I sort of find it endearing after reading a few of his stories. Like "Oh Howard, you scamp, what could you possibly have against Italians? Oh, now you don't like the Irish, either? Can't wait to hear what piercing insight into the Maori people of New Zealand you're going to offer me apropos of absolutely nothing. You silly bugger."

Great and beautiful compilation of the fiction by Lovecraft at a very good price.
Magnificent compilation of all (and if not all, at least a huge major part) the fiction written by the wicked genius of Providence, even some early drafts. Furthermore every work is preceded by an always too short, but very useful introduction by famous Lovecraft scholar S. T. Joshi. Also the binding, cover and artwork make this book look like a beautiful addition to any library. If you add to all of this a really good price, then there is no doubt that you should buy this book if you do not want to appease the wrath of Cthulhu and the rest of Old Ones.

Amazing and immersive writing!
This was my first experience reading Lovecraft's work. I had heard of it before but never bothered to read it. However, now I am completely immersed in these amazing, short stories! The book is made of high quality material and the cover is absolutely beautiful. When I bought it, I wasn't expecting such high quality for a book about spooky monsters written in the 1900s!I got this for my birthday and I have been reading it none stop. This is definitely a must have for H.P Lovecraft fans out there!

This edition has been a long time in coming to my notice and I'm going to savour it like a fine wine in a cosy atmosphere
I first came across H.P.Lovecraft's works in the late 60's, then I purchased a rare second edition of some of his stories in the early 70's for the princely sum of £28, when the average wage was £19. This edition has been a long time in coming to my notice and I'm going to savour it like a fine wine in a cosy atmosphere. I know that I will not be disappointed with my purchase.
