Great flavor and texture.
Great stuff! You wouldn't think that there could be such a difference with what you can buy in the store. This has a wonderful flavor and texture. I won't buy anything else from now on.

This is feel good food!
This was our second big bag purchase. We divide it into quart freezer bags and soak and cook a batch every week or two. Stays fresh pretty easily. We use large sealable tubs and/or a FoodSaver machine for longer term storage. Rice by itself is nice but the addition of barley adds a punch visually, texturally, for mouth feel and nutrition-wise. Price has gone up $10 a bag since pre-Covid but this barley is wonderful and worth it.

Very high fiber; nice flavor
This product requires a bit of processing to unlock the flavor. Boil 1 cup to 4 cups water for 60 minutes, low heat. Then place in electric blender until uniform. If you like hot oat bran cereal, you'll also like this. It has a slight corn flavor. It is also good unblended, whole, in soups and rice dishes, but requires a lot of chewing. The unblended product is very chewy. Very very high fiber. 25 lbs of barley will keep me regular for quite a long time. I highly recommend this product for the person who needs bulk fiber. UPDATE 6/26/2012: I tried the barley in the bulk bin at W-F Company and found that I am allergic to it. W-F barley is brown, whereas Great River barley is pale. It is also hulled, which is very healthy. I must reiterate that I like this barley a lot...mellow flavor, and I'm not allergic to it.

I like it!
So far I've used it for roasted barley tea, milled into flour for beads n cakes, added whole to soups n stews or boiled like oatmeal and also made a delicious milk based porridge - it's all good.

Great product
I'm very grateful to be able to get hulled barley at a reasonable price. My husband and I have always eaten hot oatmeal for breakfast, but recently we both were told that our cholesterol is borderline high. I decided to see if we could find an even higher fiber breakfast option. This product makes a great bowl of super-healthy hot cereal. I simply put 4 cups of water and 1 cup of barley in a 2-quart slow cooker overnight for about 8 hours. It's so easy and tasty (with some brown sugar and milk added just before serving). My kids prefer a blend of grains, so I've come up with a recipe they prefer. I use 1/2 cup of the barley and then 1/2 cup of a mix of equal parts: steel cut oats, bulgur wheat, white rice (brown came out crunchy!), and grits. This helps to mellow the flavor and minimize the chewiness for the younger crowd.

Rodent Droppings?
At first, I thought these little black "pellets" were rocks but when I soak my barley prior to cooking it, they become mushy. I don't know what kind of rodent pellet this might be but it is disgusting. I won't order from this company again. (Otherwise, the barley is great - looks and tastes great! Yes, I have eaten quite a bit of this because I did not initially realize these black pellet were probably something other than barley!!!)

Quality barley. Comparable price
I eat barley every day after cooking one cup of this whole grain in my InstaPot. Barley helps lower my cholesterol. The price, unfortunately, continues to rise each year that I buy it. This is quality barley & it comes in a sturdy bag. I pour the 25 lb bag into a large Rubbermaid plastic box which seals securely. Will buy again.
