Brilliant
This is an excellent film. This is a great retelling of the King Arthur story. With some great film stars - Helen Mirren, Cherie Lunghi, Nicol Williamson, Gabriel Burn, Liam Neeson - the list goes on. In my view this is the best Arthurian legend film going.

A Classic film, but a missed opportunity....
A classic film, which never fails to enthrall me. The beautiful visuals and stirring soundtrack make this film such a timelss gem, and one I never tire of.As yet, I am awaiting delivery of this bluray edition, but hopefully the quality will be even better than the old standard DVD that I currently own. There is no mention of extras, however, which is a missed opportunity, especially since there has been a recent documentary on the making on the film, Behind the Sword in the Stone, made in 2013, which is an excellent documentary which SHOULD be included. The art cards are a bonus, being such a beautifully crafted production, even stills are like works of art, but without the documentary, this release cannot get the elusive 5 star review. As said, I have not yet recieved it, so it is entirely possible that the documentary is part of the package but ommitted from the description. If so, consider this a five star review. :)

Brilliantly timeless
Trouble is its edited Uther had a hinged door flap on his armour when doing it to whoever to get his tadger out we thought that was halerous in second form back in the mid 80s. What film can say the whole sound track is Wagner and with an all star cast the bloke from the film Stigmata sir Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson and I think when young Martin Cloons ? anyway the quest continues Deus vault. And I'm sure Malory will approve but why did it take so long to be in my film collection and why has this film been on TV once literally since the early 90s and not every Xmas along with Condor man.

A good adaptation of the life & times of King Arthur & his knights of the round table.
At last I have managed to get a copy of John Boorman 'Excalibur' on blu-ray, even if it is a foreign copy. I do find that certain films that don't seem to be released in England you can get hold of from abroad. Still as long as you can get a soundtrack that is in English, who cares? When I first saw Excalibur I thought what a brilliant film, but seeing it now I do think it could have had a few things done differently. The music used in the film plays well with the theme at the time, but I do think in some of the scenes it just seems to be a quick burst then dies quickly. Using Carl Orffs Carmina Burana is inspirational, especially when the knights ride out to their last battle. All in all a masterpiece, beautiful to look at (especially Cherie Lunghi), well scripted & well acted, even though Nicol Williamson playing Merlin was a bit over the top. Perhaps he was told to play it that way? Fantastic!

But a King should be afraid
Many think this was a failed HD restoration but what they feel to realize is that Excalibur was shot with diffusion filters in many scenes to give the movie a fog like mystical look and as such appears soft in certain areas, but in my opinion it works really well, gives the movie that fabled story look. This Italian release also has English Audio.

Excalibur was always one of my favourite films growing up
Excalibur was always one of my favourite films growing up, and I was really keen to see it again.However......when I opened the packaging I regretted not being able to read fluent French, as all the blurb on the back of the dvd, including the scene menu were all in the French language. Not to be put off I played the film, trusting it wouldn't be dubbed, but the quality was awful.Grainy is the word.I bought this from a seller I'd used before, and had had an excellent experience. But that was a book, not a dvd.I'd recommend this seller for books, certainly, but I doubt I'd buy a dvd again. The film itself is still one of the greatest, and I will definitely get a decent copy from somewhere.

Excalibur Blu ray
This neglected classic from 1981, is both full of excellent actors & acting. Based on Morte d'Arthur it is one of John Goodman's most successful and artistic films. A strong cast led by Nicol Williamson as Merlin, Nigel terry as Arthur Helen Mirren as Morgan Lewis fey. New faces in the movie are Liam Neeson, ciaran hinds, Charley Boorman & Cherie lunghi, Gabriel Byrne, Robert Addie.Beautifully lit by the late Alex Thompson (year of the dragon), this low budget movie is well worth seeking out. As to the naysayers whom claim the blu ray is somehow not up to the standard it should be.Considering that Boorman and his beleaguered crew had all the element that Ireland could throw at them, it is a miracle that Boorman completed it at all.superb

Arthurian legend at its best and bloodiest!
This film seared itself into my brain when I sneakily watched it late night on Channel 4 as a kid. THAT scene...and that one...oh, and that one. Fantastic soundtrack to boot!

A la limite du chef d'œuvre
Dvd fonctionnel. Tres content
