Saved our home from fire!!!
A few weeks after I bought this rug, I loaded our wood burning insert up with logs, left the house, and ran errands for a few hours. When I got home, I could hear smoke alarms blaring from the driveway. I immediately ran inside, and the entire house was filled with smoke. Our pets were freaking out. I ran to the living room and saw the three big logs I had put into the fire had rolled out and were lying on this rug. One was glowing with red embers and shooting up small flames. With fire gloves, I was able to get the logs back into the fireplace and air out the house (with the aid of our attic fan). Six hours later, the house was mostly back to normal, with the only relic being a slight tinge of smoke smelled upon entering the house. I have no doubt our entire house would have been up in flames had it not been for this rug. It did exactly what it is supposed to do and I am very grateful!! In a world where products are often cheap, knockoff, “made in China” and expectations are low for performance, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. It saved our house and our pets’ lives. Thank you!

The Old Lady and I argued over this one
I would give it 5 stars, my counterpart says 4, so I'm going with that. The issue comes down to the fact it's very hard to keep clean, if you have pets don't count on ever seeing it in the condition it came in. When you vacuum it lots of the fibers start to come out and you can't really sweep it, maybe we'll try a special brush next winter. Despite this, it looks like it has not lost any fibers and I did have a few big, fiery coals come out of the wood stove once and land on the rug, it still looks great, nothing caught on fire, you can't tell they fell there and the wood floor underneath is untouched. It is definitely good for another winter if not several more. I do recommend this product. My cats however give this product 6 stars.

Excellent ...
This rug is Beautiful and High Quality. It meets the fire resistant standards it states while having the appropriate labeling required. The label also states it is NOT a substitute for hearth or protective boards required by local code. The key here is knowing and adhering to your local fire code. I purchased to cover the protective board required by my local code which had to be screwed down to my hard wood floors. I am very happy with this rug, it is exactly what I was looking for at an acceptable price :)

Great looking!
This is a good looking hearth rug. The rug stands up well in regard to handling hot coals that "pop" from wood fires. The pile is thick, as it should be, and looks better than the picture shows. The one thing that that costs one star in my rating, is that I find strands of the pile lying next to the rug on my carpet. This is from normal contact such as walking on it, setting up to start a fire, adding logs, dealings with the dog (who absolutely loves the rug), and vacuuming with the Dyson. When this finally dies, I won't hesitate to get another, as long as I get three years out of it.

Nice and thick, but sheds fiber on everything.
Opened the box three days ago and this product is shedding uncontrollably. This product is super soft and thick. It seems thick enough to stop coals from burning into the carpet and I believe it will work for that. My reason for two stars is that it sheds fibers on everything that touches it. Kneel down with black pants on to add a log to the fire and your pants end up looking like they went through a fiber hurricane. The littles and pets keep sitting on it and getting fiber all over themselves. The "dusk" color is definitely a solid purple lavender.Update: I bought this rug last week. It sheds everywhere. Do not buy this unless you don't mind it getting fibers all over your carpet.

The rug looks just like the picture
The rug looks just like the picture. It is heavy and durable. The only problem is that the tan fibers from the middle section shed A LOT making the burgandy section look like a cat has rolled on it. It requires frequent vacuuming.

Good Quality
I bought this as a gift for a relative. They liked it and is looks great in front of their fireplace. It seems to be very well made, sturdy and of good quality. I decided this would be a good purchase for them after reading the review (Sarah 1/16/2018) where a few burning logs had rolled out of a wood burning insert on to this rug and the outcome was good.I hope my relative never have to test out this rug.

Perfect hearth rug
Unfortunately, because the rug is made from natural wool fibers, my wife’s cats think it is a fabulous scratching rug. In less than a half hour they had attacked the rug and were well on their way to destroying it, which saddened me because I thought the rug so nice looking. We flipped the rug upside down, which foiled the kitty scratchers, but it doesn’t look nearly as nice upside down . Still protects the hearth, which was the original purpose, but I wish I could get rid of the cats so I could enjoy my rug.Moral of the story: Don’t have cats if you like wool rugs. Or don’t have wool rugs if you like catz.

Good
As described. It is a rug. It lies on the floor. That is what I was looking for in a rug.
