The House of Staunton - Fischer Plastic Chess Set - Pieces Only - 4.0" King

So far what I've gotten from the House of Staunton, I like a lot, and these chess pieces are no exception. Nice plastic Staunton set, great weight, very tactile and playable. Only thing is, just like the Collector plastic pieces I also acquired from HOS (and reviewed) this set features 4" kings with 1 7/8" bases on the kings. You'd do well to have a board with at least 2 3/8" squares or larger. (Pictured here) They'll work with 2 1/4" squares, but the pieces will be pretty cramped. These are good pieces, at least as good as the Best Chess Set Ever, if not better. You can play chess with these alright, and enjoy it. 5/5 stars

Nicely proportioned, weighted, felt bottomed chess set with a classic chess piece look. They are plastic pieces but feel good in your hand as the weight, size and felt bottoms give them a quality feel. Paired the pieces with an extra large 19" x 19" inlaid Maple and Beech wooden board with satin finish. Board by Chess and Games Shop Muba. The board and pieces made a beautiful set I would display anywhere.

As other reviewers have said, the Queen's crown points are notably "pointy". Some gentle filing helps. One of the base weights in my set has a slight rattle. Otherwise I consider the set perfect and a good value.

This is a very handsome set of pieces that's guaranteed to turn heads wherever you take it to. It fits perfectly on a 2.75" (6 cm) board square. It does not overcrowd the board and each piece is very distinct. The 4"-sized King is very elegant, and the overall weight of the set is very consistent and has a very good feel to it. I have been using it for study at home but will definitely use it outside for blitz and tournament play. The plastic looks very resilient, and the weights don't rattle. My only complaint about this set is that the Queen feels out of place in terms of size. It's just slightly taller than the big-headed bishops, and way shorther than the King. I think raising the Queen's crown closer to where the King's cross starts would be ideal. Also, I had to use a nail file to remove the sharp edges of the Queens' crowns. I'm not usually picky about stuff like that, but these felt like they could really cut somebody. Not a biggie. Easy job that anybody can do with a bit of care and patience. Overall, this is a truly beautiful and purpose-driven set, and not just for the price.

The pieces are indeed triple weighted. These chessmen are the favorite of my chess buddies. Use a 2.25" square chess board.

Classic design, well made at an excellent price. Also, shipped quickly and arrived a day earlier than expected. (Unlike another vendor which I shall not name, which NEVER shipped an order and did not even notify me that it was unavailable.)

I fell in love with this set The rooks and the knights are absolutely stunning the rooks are extremely heavy. The cut in bishops perfect Solid plastic the weights are also solid big slugs The pieces will not tip over I have valuable chess sets hundred-year-old 150-year-old sets and this plastic HOS set is my favorite one hands down !!! my mom doesn’t like my sets in the living room but this one she hasn’t told me to put it away elegant in any room. Definitely tournament worthy I will take this set anywhere very proud of it thank you

Very nice pieces. Some pieces came broken, but they sent me the replacement very quickly. Love the chess pieces fit very nicely on my 21.25" Board.
