This allows a 120V generator outlet, (L5-30R) to connect to an L14-30P inlet that is wired to 120V devices. If you don't understand this do research or talk to an electrician so he can draw pictures for you. Too many people don't understand what they're doing and in turn give this item a lower rating. It does exactly what it was designed to do and is well made. I use it on my 120V generator to power a bunch of 120V items that are wired to a L14-30P inlet.

When I first plugged it in and straightened out the 10AWG cord this plug adapter pulled out. Looking at it I saw the 3 prongs were 'leaning' in to the centre. I gently pried them out with my fingers just slightly and it fixed the problem. The female end of adapter fitted the 4 prong male end of cord as it should with no play at all. I then could pull on the cord to test it and actually pulled the genset towards me. I have found this to be quite common with the male plug ends on any extension cord, they get 'bent' in a little. This could happen during packing and/or shipping. No big deal. There was also no discernible voltage loss with this adapter. My amperage was exactly what it should have been on my genset which gives 29.6A. Good product.

As advertised. Less expensive than others. Jumpers the hot wire to the two legs of the 4 wire L14-30R extension to my through wall system (Reliance L14-30 to 6 std 3 prong AC plugs). Jumpers 1 hot wire to 2 hot wires in L14-30R at generator, then juice flows down 2 wires @ 15 amp each (if I balance the loads on the two banks of internal plugs) vs 1 30 amp wire. Felt more comfortable with this than cutting my male L14-30 off moderately costly extension cord and trying to jumper it myself in an L5-30 replacement plug. Intact extension can be used on larger L14-30 generator in the future. Installed Reliance through wall system and bought extension for that before realizing my generator didn't have a L14-30 output. Luckily, power came back on in 3.5 hrs when I first tried to fire up my new system and has remained on while I ordered and received this unit. Hope I never need it but if I do and it shows any issues, will update this review.

This thing is perfect. I wired my shed to run off my Champion generator that's 240v split phase and while I love that generator for the running wattage, it's 250lbs when filled and is VERY loud. I just recently bought a 4550 watt 120v single phase Predator generator inverter for portability around my property and was worried I'd never be able to take advantage of its quietness for my shed until I did some research and found this. It's a great adapter and very well built. Plugs in tightly and wasn't ever warm while using it. Highly recommend.
