Very secure and protective
I bought this case to hold a 12.9 inch Mac iPad PRO. It works perfectly and keeps the tablet very, very safe and secure. It was fairly easy to install and there are videos online to show you how to install it. This is a great product. It does add a little bulk to the iPad. I highly recommend this product.

bowling ball like protection; heavy like one too; landfill nightmare.
otter box protects my phone, and it's been dropped multiple times with no consequence, so this was a no brainer for me. none of the three brick & mortars i visited had this big monster size in stock - so no wonder they're all going under. opening up the case [separating the 2 halves] wasn't the easiest thing to do and there were no instructions, you have to go to their website and choose your model - which, in this case, at the time, was NOT on the list. *#$@&! you can not use a credit card to pry open the frame - it's like the stonework at machu pichu - anyway, i finally figured it out. i also punched out [gently] the cheesy plastic screen cover that comes glued to the inside edge of the frame [i did get that started with a credit card]; it's impossible for the frosted plastic screen cover to be in total contact with your pad screen so that's a frustration you should just head off at the beginning;. then i rubbed off the remaining gunk that was still stuck to the inside edge - it rolled off easily and completely - it was super skinny 2 sided tape. i covered the screen of the tablet with a conventional glass cover [Ailun 2 pack screen protector - which did have instructions and went on super easy]. then snapped the frame together around the pad. perfect. it's hard to separate the cover from the frame but i can see that if you drop it with the cover on, it'll probably stay in place, so it's a small quibble - i bought it after all for its bowling ball like qualities. open the pencil door with 2 hands - gently - it's super flimsy. you can't store the pencil on the charging side AND put the outer cover on. the pencil holder on the inside of the outer cover is totally useless as the shallow plastic prongs don't hold it in place - you can hear it rattling around in there all the time. secure with a piece of painters tape which you'll have to change periodically, but still, a minor inconvenience/quibble. the giant ipad is heavy to begin with, this didn't make it any lighter - 3 lbs 2 oz with the outer cover on.

Love the OtterBox Defender case, but the pencil port hinge is not good
OtterBox cases have protected every iPod, phone and iPad I’ve owned for nearly 20 years and I’ve never had a device break. So because of my affection for OtterBox, when I first received my iPad Pro 12.9 inch screen over 2 years ago, I immediately bought an OtterBox Defender case for it. I use my iPad Pro daily, like it’s an extension of my brain. I carry it around the house and always have it within arm’s reach. It has been dropped. Many times. And the Defender case has always protected it very well. I even like the attached screen cover since sometimes I stupidly use my iPad as a tray when my hands are full. The rubber outer shell of my first cover had been stretched out by someone thinking the hole for the Apple logo was a good place to use as a hand grip. Repeatedly. Even though they were asked politely not to do that. Repeatedly. It was a no brainer to replace it with the same OtterBox Defender case.I have read some of the other reviews and also had the same pencil charging port cover issues others have. On both covers, the pins that act as the door hinge have broken off within days of first use. The port cover will still click into place without the hinges, but it’s not as secure. It’s a nuisance having to constantly make sure it’s attached and try to find it when it unexpectedly comes off. I do not charge my pencil often, so when my first one broke I took a piece of duct tape, rolled it sticky side out and stuck it to the inside of the port door to hold it against my iPad to keep it in place - I was traveling and did not want to lose it on a plane. Needless to say the tape adhesive eventually transferred to my pencil when I charged it. This morning, having received and just put this new cover on 4 days ago, I went to pick up my iPad and the pencil port door came off in my hand. When I tried to put it back on, I saw that one of the hinge pins had already broken off. I need to find a way to fix it that will not include getting tape adhesive all over nor have a piece of tape stuck to the outside of a new case. I would have whole heartedly given this case 5 stars if it was not for the poor design of the pencil charging port cover.

Good protection for heavy duty use
This case is very protective and has a front cover that doubles as a stand which is really nice if you travel a lot and want to be sure your screen is protected. I use my iPad Pro 12.9 in my glass studio so I needed something very secure. It does come with a built in screen protecter that I hated so I ripped it out. It’s just a thin plastic and I knew I’d get glass/dust under it. It also doesn’t work great with an Apple Pencil but it was easy to remove if you want to use your own screen protector. All in all it’s a great case and I’m happy with it. I searched everywhere for something tough but also classy looking and this was the perfect fit.

Perfect
This is the second case I’ve purchased for my iPad. I found my iPad difficult to use with the previous case and I’m not having that same issue with this case easy to open. I feel very secure and protected with this case on.
