Finally, a great train!
After using my great grand kids as beta testers, I finally found a train that is appropriate, kid friendly, and sturdy enough for young children. It is well worth the money because the other tiny trains would not hold up with small children playing with them. This train was beautiful, stayed on the tracks, and the remote was easily used by a three year old.

Great Christmas train for a 4 year old!
This train stays on its tracks better than others we had of comparable price and quality. It’s easy to operate and my son enjoys the sounds. The one annoying thing is that if the train is on but the remote is off, the train beeps loudly! It’s not annoying enough that I wish I’d bought something else but it is something to be aware of.

Perfect for our 3yo at Christmas - 2020 UPDATE
We rolled it out a couple of weeks before Christmas for everyone to enjoy. Our 3yo was elated. Lots of play time and zero problems. You probably should know a little about model trains though to ensure problem-free use. All the track pieces need to be flat (preferably hard surface), carefully lock them together, ensure every single wheel on each car is properly aligned. We purchased C cell to AA cell adapters to be able to use AA rechargeable batteries in this - works very well and we've had multiple days of playtime without needing a recharge.2020 UPDATE - Still giving this great set 5 stars! We began using it early last year, then bought extra track and he played for a few months with it after Christmas as well. We brought it back out for this Christmas and it ran like a charm. Lights, sounds, overall look and operation are great. I still highly recommend using AA rechargeables instead of C batteries since the C batteries are so heavy - the engine needs 6.

Perfect for the Christmas tree
It was easy to put together and fit perfectly under the Christmas tree. The cars detach easily from one another so you have to be crafty turning it off or they’ll detach but you can easily put them back on. They’re durable because after a while the kids just played with the individual cars around the house and they didn’t break.

Nice but a few drawbacks
It’s a great train cos my 2 y/o got entertained by it for > an hour so it made me productive in the house. On the remote, there is a speed control which is nice and easy to navigate by a toddler like mine. The 3 buttons below it are a bit disappointing cos i thought i could play some music or melody while the train is on. One button is for horn, the other is an announcer saying “First stop north pole, second stop mickey mouse house” and third button for bell sound. Another drawback is it operates on 6C batteries for the train, separate smaller batteries for remote- to think it costs a bit much, i’d expect it to be rechargeable. The train rails make a big track which is a plus but it could be pain trying to re-size it to smaller track as it derails easily. Surprisingly, the connectors for the trains work fine considering they are loose. Overall it is nice train, it is just really overpriced.

Worked one Christmas, next year it didn’t.
I purchased this a year ago. It worked beautifully. Loved the characters, the sound, all the noises. It’s loud ish, but that didn’t bother us. My family loved it. I pulled it out this year for Christmas, assembled it, and was thoroughly disappointed that it didn’t work.It goes forward a bit then stops. It goes backward a bit and then stops. After it does this a few time. It just stops moving.Of course the warranty was expired and I’m past the return date. This item is too expensive to be a one time deal.Hopefully my husband can take it apart and tinker and fix it so we’ll have another train this Christmas. Who has the money to shell out $60-$100 bucks every Christmas to replace these things?!

Excellent family train set
My 4 year old boy/girl twins absolutely lost it when they saw this train on Christmas! I have another Lionel we bought a year before and my kids wanted to play with it so bad (not at that price, kids!) So we got this Mickey train for them. It's February now and it's still in the dining room being played with constantly.I know it's being played with constantly because as we know from our other set, it's loud. This one isn't as bad but it makes it's presence known. The trains do fall off the track of the floor isn't even and my young ones can't get it back on straight themselves, even my 10yr old struggles, so this really is more of a family train. But it's very sturdy and holds up well to frequent use by little hands.

cute but……
ok - to be fair i bought this for my 4 year old and i used my amazon points b/c i had a feeling the cost wasn’t justified (i know points are $, but this felt different haha).the good - it’s cute, plenty of trackthe bad - it’s SOO plasticy, takes a LOT of batteries, and WHY IS IT SO LOUD?????? also? annoying that tou have to take mickey off to put it all back in the box. he clicks on so you have to put something thin between him and the train to push the tab downall n all it’s not bad or good but just “okay”
