the illustrations were adorable, and the story was engaging
I used to work as a children's department lead. I've read many many children's books. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one on the shelves one day. It was concise and to the point, the illustrations were adorable, and the story was engaging. I learned a lot about LeBron James that I had never known before. The book wasn't overly long and would keep a child's interest easily. I also believe that it tells the story of LeBron James in a way that children can relate to and understand. I would definitely recommend this book to a first or second grader who is looking for a non-fiction book. I think it would be great for a school assignment.

I absolutely ADORED this sweet, loveable story
Wow! I absolutely ADORED this sweet, loveable story! As I was reading it, it brought back some very fond, special memories of when I was a young girl and my Mom and I would read books together by Shel Silverstein. Mr. Silverstein had a natural gift for evoking compassionate, inquisitive emotional responses from his readers - even young children. I still remember the magical joy I felt whenever I read one of his books. As I was reading Anthony Curcio's book "The Boy Who Never Gave Up" I was immediately struck by the similarities of these two gifted authors. I was immediately pulled into the story of LeBron James and his mother. Due to Mr. Curcio's vivid, emotionally evocative storytelling I felt a lot of compassion for both of them. I felt a lot of empathy for LeBron and his mother and I also found myself rooting for them - wanting them to have better lives and to see LeBron's dream come true. I was very touched by this story and LOVED every minute of it! Mr. Curcio's writing style is beautifully crafted yet authentic at the same time. His colorful illustrations are absolutely brilliant! I sincerely hope that this author keeps writing more books as I will definitely be reading more of them!

Great book for young boys!
I purchased this book based on the reviews, as I've never heard of or seen it anywhere else. My son just turned 7, and wants to be a professional basketball player when he grows up, so I decided to look for some inspiring non-fiction books for him. This book is beautifully written and is very easy for kid's to understand how Lebron James' life was like growing up, in school, in sports, and how he got to where he is today, never giving up. While I was reading this to my son, he asked A LOT of questions about "The King" and was really engaged in the story. I think this book is really inspiring for young athletes. Also, a great book for single mother's to read to their boys.

Great book!!
Bought for my 7 year old son, who is currently obsessed with basketball. And I feel Lebron James is a good NBA player for my son to look up to, because of all the good things he does. I believe my husband and I like this book just as much as my son. It tells his story but on a level kids can understand. It's a great book for a kid who is learning to read.

Good read, misleading who the author actually was.
The actual story of Lebron's life was excellent, however at first glance it looked like he was the author. Misleading print font.

I read this book with my son to practice his reading skills. He is a huge basketball fan so the wonderful illustrations and real pictures held his attention and for me this was an interesting as I was not aware of LeBrons background.Loved the educational motivating message to the kids.Wish there were more in this series, we also read Steph Curry and enjoyed it very much.Thank you!
