Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Complete Series [Blu-ray]

A classic, a masterpiece, an icon. All this and more. This set has all 26 episodes of the legendary series with the end of Evangelion movie and a recap movie to finish it off. It’s what you’ll find on Netflix and for some that may be a problem. This set only contains the original Japanese and the new dub made for Netflix a few years back, meaning that fans of the series from the late 90’s and early 2000’s won’t be able to return to their original experience through this set, which is very unfortunate as the price gap between this and the other blu ray sets that include that dub is significant. It’s a greedy practice and an insult, one made solely to drain from the fans who wanted to get what they had all those years ago because the companies involved knew they would be willing to pay extra for it. Is this set worth it then? If you were introduced to the series with the recent dub as I was then it might not be a huge issue and if you watch subbed then the only thing you’d be missing from the collectors sets are some bonus trinkets, which isn’t a huge deal in my eyes but if you’re passionate about the series you might already own the series a few times anyway. Is this set worth it? Yes. It’s affordable and it’s decent and even though it was made purposely lacking, it’s still too good for that to seriously effect that.

NGE is my favorite tv anime ever. Theatrical films are nice but the original TV+End of Eva movie will always be my favorite.I made the mistake a few years back of listening to 'certain' sensationalist anime-Tubers who were busy on the "Netflix dub" meme/complain bandwagon at the time. Because I've been a fan of the old ADV dub, I took their word for it and that was it.But once I started watching said netflix/Shout Studios dub, It wasn't bad at all. After settling in a few episoes, it felt nice to hear a new cast take on such a iconic anime. And I commend them for that.Of course the most obvious omission that was mentioned by others - Fly Me To The Moon on each episode credits is missing. Guess studio didn't want to pay a little extra for licensing. Instead variants of Rei themes plays on the credits. Not a huge deal.The visual/audio quality on this Blu-ray is excellent, and a nice case+sleeve worth collecting and displaying on the shelf.

Extremely cool and will always go down as one of the classics. An emotional rollercoaster, but a must watch for any true fan of manga or anime.

If you are like me and have never seen the series before and want to see what all the fuss is about, don't hesitate to purchase this collection. It's another high quality release from Shout Factory. The picture and sound quality is excellent. I can understand long time viewers being disappointed not having the original dub they know and love. However, one can tell a lot of hard work and love has gone into the new dub. The actors have done an exceptional job. If one didn't know, they would think the dialog was done before the animation. And the story is as good and engaging as everyone says it is.

One of the most powerful, visually stunning, and intellectually probing anime that I have ever watched. Presented on Blu-ray for the first time in North America. It’s totally groundbreaking, action packed and visually stunning from creator Hideaki ANNO it’s been hailed as one of the most important anime series of all time in the world.In my opinion, I totally agree - remarkable fusion of genetics and genres this series is a powerful examination of the relationship between human and machine. This is NOT a SKYNET takeover from the Terminator franchise at all. We can't have nice things.This collection is well made and the video is very clear. I watch it in Japanese with English subtitles so the new English dub doesn't throw me. It was almost perfect. But, dang it, the lawyers had to go and mess with it.The end music in the original was one of several covers of "Fly me to the moon." But due to licensing issues, they had to replace it with another piece (Rei I, I think). This is not bad, really, and fairly respectful of the original. But it's not 100% true to the original either. And the original is a work of art. It should not be changed for such a frivolous reason.So, while I'm happy to have a really clean image, I'm not super enthusiastic about the end music being changed just because the lawyers couldn't work out. And, it's got me wondering if they messed with anything else I haven't noticed yet.

bought this after binging the show on netflix because I wanna always have this show on me. The story is very well written and while preachy at parts overall it was really good. In my opinion its very good due to the way it makes you reflect inwards on yourself and how you view the world. It truly is beautiful but it is not for everyone.

It is going to be a present, so I haven't watched it. The item arrived in good condition and on time.
