ActionScript 3.0 for Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a book
"ActionScript 3.0 fo Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a book" is another great book in the Adobe CS5 training series with15 lessons and written to clarify ActionScript 3.0, which explains all aspects of ActionScript 3.0 in lesson form, and has an accompanying CD with 15 lessons that are written, and explained by Adobe experts. If you are intimidated by ActionScript 3.0 either because your use to writing in ActionScript 1.0 and/or 2.0, or are just new to ActionScript 3.0, and have no prior experience with ActionScript 1.0 and/or 2.0 this is a great book to get you going, and motivated about ActionScript 3.0, and how powerful this completely newly written ActionScript 3.0 is, and the speed at which it accomplishes Object Oriented Programing (OOP) is 4 to 10 times faster than the older ActionScript 1.0 and 2.0. It is well worth the effort put in to learning ActionScript 3.0. I am going to AI "Art Institute of Pittsburgh College Online Division" and used "Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a book" and "How to Cheat in Adobe Flash CS5" in my first Web Authoring Class, which if this book looks to intimidating, I would suggest starting out with those two books, until you are up to speed. ActionScript 3.0 is brand new from the ground up, and it has a hard learning curve, but well worth learning, also there are a ton of You Tube videos, and a subscription to Linda.com at 25 a month helps too. Don't give up hang in there, for me I had to enroll into AI online college, but you can learn this on your own with the right resources and this book is a great resources book, which I have added to my collection of ActionScript 3.0 reference books.

It holds your hand on your first walkthrough
I am not finished with this book yet but only a couple chapters in, it is really making this language make sense to me. Coupled with CS5 snippets, I am finally getting this language. The step by step, line by line coding, giving explanation while you write it, really helps me to retain the knowledge.. The setup before, and review and quiz at the end of each lesson also helped to stamp the knowledge into my brain.I have several AS3 books, and all I can say is, this is the book that is actually "sticking". So far, anyway. When I finish it I will try to update this review. But so far it is great!

Excellent Beginner's Book for Learning ActionScript 3.0
The ActionScript 3.0 for Adobe Flash Professional CS5 book is the perfect book for both beginnners in using ActionScript 3.0 in Flash, as well as for beginners in programming in general. All of the lessons are simple to follow, and they take the time to point out small things that beginners normally miss. The only thing I would caution would be to make certain you obtain a copy of the book WITH the included DVD; as the lesson content included on the DVD is essential to getting the most out of this book. Also, as is probably obvious, there is no inclusion of the Flash Professional software in any form; so you're best by is to either download a free 30-day trial from [...], or purchase the software yourself. Regardless, this is a great book for anyone wanting to learn to program, and/or wanting to start on learning ActionScript 3.0.

A Great Alternative To Traditional class room
I am writing a general review for the 4 CS5 books I currently own Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash Pro, and Actionscript 3.0 I am ordering the rest of the series for the 5.5 Master Suite after I get through what I have now. These Books are a fantastic alternative to traditional classroom instruction. The lesson plans are easy to follow and for the most part very well layed out and take about 2 hours per chapter to complete. For the beginner they provide a step by step plan building upon the previouse lesson.I travel constantly and these books make learning on the go great no internet connection required. For those of you that are self taught or have need a refresher course they are a fantastic reference. For a total learning experience I recommend supplementing these books with Adobe help and Adobe TVI recommend these tutorials to everyone.

Great but conflicted
Ok, this will be brief. This has already been an amazing learning tool. I received it in the mail today and am already on lesson 4. The issue is out of all the Classroom in a Book titles i have purchased this one has THE most typos out of all of them. This is a serious issue. If you have some experience with actionScript then you can catch 90% early on quickly.I have already learned a lot but if you haven't, at least, went through the CIB Flash Professional a couple times... This book will drive you mad.I gave 5 stars due to valuable information. The typed examples are where the frustration begins. hence the title of the review.

Great Action Script Explanations for beginners
I have no experience with computer programming, but wanted to finally use Action Script 3 in Flash CS6. Other books will no doubt help as I get the hang of it, but this is the book that actually made Action Script 3 understandable and usable. It is very clearly written and the practice lessons on the CD are very helpful. I had first bought the Kindle version, but it turns out that there is no way to get the lesson files with that. Perhaps Adobe will make it possible for Kindle users to download the lesson files, but for now, buy the printed version of the book (which has the CD inside the back cover).

A bit confusing
Can't quite understand when to end a code with a ; or not. eg P56 and P57, after codes like instrument scaleX += .1 (no ;) whereas it works when I insert ; after it. When do you actually insert ; after a code? P59: What is the difference between fadeOut and FadeOut?
