Q: What is the length of each of the three pieces? Are they each about 14" long, and measure 40" when all 3 are fitted together?

The ones I received are exactly 14 inches long, but when three are assembled the total length comes out to be 37.25 inches. Since they insert into each other you loose almost 5 inches
