This book has consistently helped me better understand myself and the people around me.
I have purchased at least six copies of this book - it is one of my favorites to share with other people and makes a great gift for someone who is interested in understanding more about themselves and others. It is an easy read, very helpful in finding your type, and has tips at the end for personal as well as spiritual growth! I turn to this book when I am struggling with myself and I feel like I learn something new every time I read it. It focuses more on the “why” of your type than the “what” - meaning that the authors really dig into the underlying factors of WHY we make decisions, rather than just analyzing people by their personalities. Would recommend again and again to anyone!

I Really Tried Hard Not to Buy This Book- I'm so Glad I Bought It
It's true. Because of the price (and being cheap), I tried really hard not to buy it. I'm 5th in line for the kindle book at my library (and I don't love reading digital books). I asked friends if I could borrow it. I tried to avoid the cost. Finally, looking through a friend's (that I couldn't borrow because she was still soaking it up), I KNEW I'd want my own copy. Ugh. So I broke down and bought it AND I'M SO GLAD I DID!!! It's SO good! It's helping me to see the world differently, my family differently, and myself differently. It's changing the conversation in our home, giving me deeper understanding when I interact with others, and great self-awareness. I love Ian's comment in the beginning that this isn't about boxing anyone in... but instead, showing you the box you're ALREADY in, and helping you find a way out. Anyway, if you're trying to NOT spend $20 on a book... just quit now. You probably spend that much on a meal out with a family or a few coffees a week or whatever. And this book will serve you WAY better than most other ways you can use the money. So just do it :) I know I'm glad I did.

Feel Like a Number
Despite what the cover says, I don’t know whether the Enneagram was really about self-discovery or self-horror as talked about in The Road Back to You. While it’s a very funny and engaging book with very relatable examples of people who exhibit both the best and worst traits of the various numbers on the enneagram—an ancient personality type system, it also ended up very concerning for me because I saw myself in most of the numbers on the enneagram and was not always positive! One really should not read this book if they are the type of person who can’t give a critical or honest appraisal of themselves because I find the experience of reading this book to be a very sobering experience. I had to stop and question a lot of things and moments in my life when I felt like a 5 or a 3 and wonder if that was part of my personality or just a moment of 5 dom. It was a difficult book to read from an emotional perspective and one that I’m not sure all audiences or even myself was ready for.

Great introduction to Enneagrams
This book was a great introduction to the Enneagram. I was unfamiliar and had never known about Enneagrams until I was introduced to this book through my Book Club. I found this book very informative and loved the self diagnosing aspects of it rather than someone telling me “this is who you are.” I know me best I should do it for myself. I found it helpful to know other numbers and how to relate to them. It was written very well and easy to read, I also found it funny. There may be better books out there to study and research Enneagrams but found this one very useful for the “everyday person.”

A great book for growing in self-awareness and compassion for others
This is a great introduction to the enneagram, an ancient personality tool that you need to know about. Its different from other tools like the Myers-Briggs and this difference is what make it so helpful and so uncomfortable to study. The enneagram doesn't flatter. It provides more than a description of your strengths. You'll also get insight into the unhealthy side of your personality. You'll gain an understanding of how you operate at your best and your worst, which is why I have a love/hate relationship with the enneagram. Expect to be encouraged as you read. Expect to squirm at times as you read descriptions of the darker aspects of your personality that are so spot on, you'll wonder if someone's crawled inside your head and downloaded a few things. There's a lot of more technical books written on the enneagram but this is probably the most accessible and engaging book on the topic. The writing is excellent and the content is organized in a way that makes the tool easy to understand. The authors write from a Christian perspective but its not heavy handed. I can't imagine someone coming from a different faith or no faith at all feeling "run over" by their perspective. The things we refuse to face in ourselves often have great power over us. Read this book and allow these gracious authors to gently invite you to a greater level of self-awareness that can lead to greater freedom and greater compassion both for yourself and others.

Great book. The Authors do a great job of describing and helping you understand each personality type.
This book is great. We are doing it as a small group discussion to learn more about each other and what makes up each person. The Enneagram is amazing. Has really helped me understand myself and how I am wired by God, and then taking it a step further helps me understand my wife and those around me. This has helped us get much more comfortable with each other in the small group, and even has extended to understanding the people that I work with. The book is great. I would recommend taking the Enneagram test before you read the book. The authors do a great job with stories and analogies to help you understand each type of person and lay each type out is a great manner with strengths and weaknesses and how the type tends to be as a child. Highly recommend.

An easy read
The authors use of real life examples correlating to each number was perfect and made it easy to understand. This is a quick read and I highly enjoyed learning about the Enneagram. I took this to the lake with 5 kids and was able to finish it no problem.

It does mention God, but it's so full of humour and insight that it didn't bother me at all. I found the descriptions and advice surprisingly accurate. If you're the kind of person who does every online "personality test", you will enjoy this.

I have found this book to be such as easy read and super helpful! I actually listened to it on audio through the library and loved the author’s humerous story telling style ! He is easy to listen to and yet has a way of giving helpful insight and advice . I found this book to be helpful personally , but also in my marriage and in parenting my kids. I would recommend this as one of the most useful books from a practical point of view in gaining insight into your inner thoughts , habits and temperment .
