Better Wood Products Fatwood Firestarter Box, 5-Pounds

Gets fireplace up and burning with only a couple of pieces.

We recently bought a house with a wood burning fireplace and a recent cold spell was just perfect to test it out. We bought piñon wood, but I thought we might need a boost to get the fire going. These Fatwood Firesticks were perfect--we lighted the sticks and they caught fire and ignited the wood and we had a lovely fire burning away.

Super convenient, excellent way to start a fire with lasting burn time at the base. Easy to store, not sticky to handle.

I continue to re-order this FatWood because it works very well for starting fires. Good value for the money.

They work fine and I have been using them for years now. Will buy again.

I was looking for a fire starter that doesn't rely on chemicals to get started since I sometimes use my campfire to cook. Thanks to the reviews I tried these sticks and wasn't disappointed. I don't agree with another reviewer who said they a spark easily... Depending on the wind, they can take a minute or two to start up and will go out if they don't have enough heat. In fact, I considered giving this review 4 stars since they don't spark as easily as the starters soaked in chemicals or fuel; BUT, I changed it back to 5 stars because I think they work marvelously for an all-natural starter even if they require a little extra care.The first couple times using these, I think I used 10-15 sticks until my firewood caught on (which is a lot but I didn't really know what I was doing). Since then, I'm able to start a fire using 4 sticks. If there is no wind, I could probably use just 2 sticks but there is more risk that they will go out before the firewood catches. I've learned that using 4 sticks ensures they will stay lit and provides enough heat to get the firewood started. If your're not paying attention and the fire gets too low to start another log, you just need one stick that will quickly start it back up.

*Update *I contacted the company about the box of fatwood that was difficult to light. They immediately sent me a replacement box. This box was easier to light. I was able to start them with just a match. This is the same quality as previous purchases. I will definitely buy these again in the future.*Review of 1st box*I have bought this brand several times in the past with no issues until this purchase. These fatwood sticks are extremely hard to light. I regret my purchase. Every year I would only buy this brand because of their reliability to start fires in the fireplace. This batch is so bad it's even hard to start a fire with a torch using paper and seasoned kindling. In the past this fatwood could be lit with just a match.
