The Isle of Skye is a justifiably popular destination in Scotland, not least for its varied walking and hiking possibilities. This Pathfinder Guide from Ordnance Survey is aimed at those walkers, with their varying abilities, and not necessarily those who go to the rugged Cuillins for technical climbing. The guide provides an easy-to-understand range of possibilities, based on individual proficiency.The guide offers a worthwhile introduction to the Isle of Skye before getting into individual hikes. Each hike gets its own chapter, with a narrative, parameters on distance and height gain, and comments on degree of difficulty. Inset maps may be sufficient for navigation; some may want the specific Ordnance Survey map sheet for more clarity. Reading the entire chapter for each hike may also alert the walker or hiker to attractions along the way, including items of natural beauty or evidence of Skye's long human history. The guide itself is a useful size that will easy fit in a rucksack. Very well recommended.

To start, let me say we have not yet been to Skye and done any of the hikes. We are still in the planning stages. But the guide seems well done with good directions and maps. The one curious thing about the guide is that it is called "Outstanding Circular Walks." Many of the walks are clearly "out and back." We've been joking that if you walk out, and around a tree, or a rock, before following the same track back it is then a very flat circle.If you take the meaning to be that you will end up where you started and that the milage is based on that return, then it's fine.

Nice book but most of the walks are linear not circular

These books are all very good and help plan a great walking holiday. This is no exception.

Always great guides, some nice walks with OS map cut outs

Very basic map, lots of routes NOT circular at all. DISAPPOINTING.
