The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings

Baseball diamond fun and drama
It has been 40+-years since I last watched this movie about a barn-storming team of baseball players from the Negro Leagues. This about a team of talented and fast-moving African American players forming their own team, "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings" led by Bingo long (Billy Dee Williams), a pitcher who rebels against a penny-pinching owner, Sallison Potter (Ted Ross), the owner of the Ebony Aces. Joining him on the fields of southern USA are: James Earl Jones as Leon Carter, Richard Pryor as Charlie Snow / "Carlos Nevada" / "Chief Takahoma", Stan Shaw as Joseph Vanderbilt "Esquire Joe" Calloway, Tony Burton as Issac, Rico Dawson as Willie Lee Shively, Sam "Birmingham" Brison as Louis Keystone, Jophery Brown as Emory "Champ" Chambers, Leon Wagner as Sam "Fat Sam" Popper, and John McCurry as Walter Murchman. This effective mix of comedy and drama takes one back to the 1930s Negro Baseball days. I enjoyed this film.

Bingo Long Movie
It is fun to find old classic shows like this on Amazon. We still watch dvd/blueray in our house. This movie is based on a true story and holds up well to the test of time. It tells about the hardships of non white ball players pre 1960's. Very enjoyable.

'A Good Movie Starring Actor Billy Dee Williams!'
The movie is good with a good cast and good acting. Actor Billy Dee Williams is good as Bingo Long, a baseball player who, with his teammates play baseball during the 1930's only to deal with racism as well as having trouble paying for their expenses. Actors James Earl Jones and Richard Pryor are also good as Leon and Charlie. I cried when actor DeWayne Jessie's character Rainbow had a head injury and he couldn't talk but in the end he got his voice back. In the end, the team got a chance to play in the big leagues. The movie is comical in parts with a bit of drama. REST IN POWER to the following actors and actresses: Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Washington King (December 25, 1932-November 9, 1999); Ms. Ahna Capri (nee Anna Marie Nanari) (July 6, 1944-August 19, 2010); Mr. Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor (December 1, 1940-December 10, 2005); Miss Sarina C. Grant (February 24, 1948-November 30, 2005); Mr. Joel Fluellen (December 1, 1907-February 2, 1990); Mr. Alvin Childress (September 15, 1907-April 19, 1986); Mr. Sam Laws (January 26, 1924-March 16, 1990); Mr. John McCurry (October 18, 1928-March 28, 1989); Mr. Leon Lamar Wagner (May 13, 1934-January 3, 2004); Mr. Tony Burton (ne Anthony Mabron) (March 23, 1937-February 25, 2016); Mr. Jophery Clifford Brown (January 22, 1945-January 11, 2014); Mr. 'Birmingham' Sam Brison (circa 1940-April 2014); Mr. Theodore 'Ted' Ross Roberts (June 30, 1934-September 3, 2002): 'You all may be gone but you will never, ever be, forgotten.'

Wonderful film for any fan of baseball . . . or comedy . . . or terrific acting
I've loved this movie from the first, and my baseball stud son grew up with it. He was at a baseball clinic 20 years ago and impressed Howard Johnson, the late great Tony Gwynn (who was a freshman at SDSU in a political science class I taught my senior year), and Harold Reynolds, who walked up to my son and said, "Man, who ARE you?" He switch hit, never missing a single pitch, and even did TG's inside-out swing I taught him, so we were natural lovers of it. Didn't teach my son to "kick that mule," but we still get a kick out of it.Great film with fabulous roles and impeccable acting abilities for Billy Dee Williams and James Earl Jones, years before either of them ever heard of The Force and Luke Skywalker. The CD is brand new, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my young grandsons, who will follow my dad, me, and my son as the next generation of awesome baseball players . . . with a little bit of soul.

The trials & travels of a great team of Black baseball players surviving in a segregated world
James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor are the outstanding cast in a story told with humor, anger and sadness the film looks at the end of one era of segregated baseball where Black players could outplay the Big league white teams easily but could not join their ranks.

Dramatized '30s Negro League Baseball
Many of the stories told by old timers who played in the Negro Leagues come alive in this film. Lots of legends and tall tales from that time take on added dimension ("Who will hit my invite pitch?") and Billy Dee Williams seems near perfect if not, in fact, perfect as Bingo Long. Performances by James Earl Jones and Richard Pryor in particular just sing in harmony with Williams. This may be fiction but there are many truths told here. The modern day, overpaid, spoiled brats of the MLB who like to stand at the plate and watch the flight of their home runs before deigning to move around the bases probably wouldn't have survived the harsh realities of the Negro League baseball road. I wonder what Josh Gibson would have made of this film?
