Scarves, Shrugs & Shawls: 22 Knitted Designs with Their Special Techniques (Knit & Crochet)

Awesome Knitting Book
This is an awesome knitting book for those who like to knit scarves, shrugs or shawls. It is particularly nice that the book opens with full-color pages containing pictures of all the projects. I was especially drawn to the Triangular Scarf in a lime green that is easy to knit. It looks more like a mini-shawl to me than a scarf. The Loop Scarf in a nice light brown hue is textured and lovely. The Fair Isle Stole is classic and is a knitting project that any Fair Isle lover will savor. The Mobius Wrap in a bright turquoise is knit in a seeming basketweave pattern and looks comfy. The Leaf Detail Collar is a scarf that pulls through a hole created in the far end. It is knit up in a gray-blue hue and I think I will knit it for my granddaughter. The Lace Block Shawl is very delicate and can be a challenge to knit, but looks well worth it. The Multiway Stole can be used two ways - either as a classic stole or it can be buttoned to look like a short sleeve cardigan without much of a back. The Crescent Shawl is another lace wonder knit up in a lovely lilac colorway. I'm not a fan of shrugs but even I was taken by the Frilled Shawl. This shrug has great texture.I'm glad the book contains a section on how to wear your shawl. Often, I think there is only one way but the portraits shown indicate a wide variety of ways to wear your new creation. Again, these are large photos that are clear and precise. The book ends with a 'Techniques' section that goes into things like provisional castons, short row shaping, mobius shaping, knitted-on edging, cables, no-turn bobbles, lace, two-handed Fair Isle, Fair Isle carrying yarns, and picking up stitches for edgings. All of the patterns are written out and charted so depending on your preference, both ways of knitting are included. Overall, the patterns in this books are splendid and I've covered only some of them. There are many more than I mentioned and Sarah Hatton has done a wonderful work of designing knitting patterns that all of us can love.

Versatile collection of accessories featuring a variety of techniques, beautifully photographed in lush yarns
I'm a big fan of the British yarn and design company Rowan, and Sarah Hatton is one of my favorites of their impressive stable of designers. This collection features over 22 patterns for accessories designed by Hatton and knit in luxe Rowan yarns. Photography and styling are beautiful and don't compete with the lovely designs. What I especially like about this book:1. Variety of techniques used -- from stranded knitting to lace, cables to ruffles to textured stitchwork, there's something for everyone here.2. Variety of items -- even though the book is limited to scarves, shrugs and shawls, there are a wide variety of shapes and lines represented. Traditional rectangular scarves and triangular shawls, but also layering pieces that button, a cropped cable wrap, a capelet with collar, scarves so large they could be called stoles, even a hooded scarf.3. Versatility of garments -- they can be worn many ways depending on your style. They will be easy to customize via yarn and color choice.4. Quality directions, with charts, lots of photos, helpful tips. This would be a terrific holiday gift for a knitter (let your LYS help you pick out some yarn to go with) or treat yourself. Lots of options for making gifts for others, too.

Awesome book, highly recommended
I bought this book for the pattern for the color block scarf (middle bottom photo) since I have a Rowan Kidsilk Haze addiction. I was pleasantly surprised that I am interested in making at least ten other iems from patterns in the book. I haven't started my scarf yet but from preliminary reading of the pattern, the instructions seem clear.A bonus item in this book that makes it especially worthy of five stars is a section showing various ways to wear the scarves. A nice extra feature to include.

Not enough guidance on substituting other yarns. Patterns all ...
Not enough guidance on substituting other yarns. Patterns all specify Rowan brand yarns, and if you aren't familiar with them, it's hard to pick equivalents just based on yardage per ounce/gram and the manufacturer's descriptions included,. Special techniques section appears clear and helpful.

Nice pictures, clear instructions and easy to understand
This is a great assortment of knitted shawls & shrugs to wear on a cool evening or an evening within the bundled feeling of a coat. I wanted some different styles and nice to have some made up on hand for family members birthdays. I normally crochet; however, knitting is a nice change of course.

Very clear and useful.
This book was chosen to complete one project and start another. I waited some weeks beyond suggested date, but it was well packed and as advertised

Five Stars
An excellent variety of designs. The section on "how to wear" them is especially helpful.
