They are just what I needed
I purchased a truck awning that needed an up grade to improve its durability. I replaced the legs and top members with these Poles. They are stronger and more durable then the lower quality of my awning poles. I also added reinforcement to my awning where the poles attache.

So good I bought another pair!
I used these to hold up one side of my shade sail over my patio. The fence is only about 4' tall, so I bought some brackets to hold these poles in place.I wouldn't expect them to hold up a shade sail in the wind and fully extended -- I extended these about halfway for each part, with the lower sections helping to stabilize and strengthen the upper parts. They feel secure, and sure enough, when the wind picked up, they held up just fine. I've had them up now for 2 weeks here on the New England coast and they've held up. I like them so much I've ordered another pair for the 3rd floor deck!

Looks good at first look but
When I used it first time one of the pole was not at all getting tight or lock. I keep twisting for several minutes. And then Finally it locked after lot of efforts. The bottom support or shoe broke during first use. I returned it.

Works well for patio canopy.
I bought this as a gift for my daughter to hold up her backyard canopy to make it more sturdy. They work well and do the job without being an eye sore.

thin walled "aluminum"? Fabricate your own out of steel EMT...
I gave them a one star because one of my poles snapped in half during a small bit of wind, and they should be strong enough to handle some wind. Its a shade awning they are intended to hold up and since when is it ever not breezy? I wouldnt expect them to stay up during extreme conditions, Im not talking about that. The problem lies in their thickness; while the diameter of the poles gave me some confidence at first inspection, the actual wall thickness is very thin, and its not made of aluminum as they say...its some sort of pot-metal. I suppose once a product made in china has 30-40% aluminum content, its deemed as "made of aluminum". I dont know. Also, the twist lock mechanism to extend the length is a bit iffy. It works alright at first, right twist to loosen and collapse/extend, and left twist to tighten back up...but while looking at the broken pole I noticed the plastic guts inside that govern the loosen/tighten action, were already broken and the collapse didnt happen near the joint.Id say save your money and buy some 6 foot steel EMT sections at the local hardware store, drill holes to make them extendable with a trailer pin, and rig up some sort of nipple at the top for insertion into tarp grommets. You'll save money and know it wont collapse.
