Great at the price.
Unlike many over-priced hand mixers this one has a low speed that is usable and plenty of power at higher speeds as well. Thank goodness! We originally bought a Cuisinart but found it unusable at low speed as it threw ingredients all over the place. We wanted a mixer, not an Evinrude! Unfortunately this overpowering low speed problem seems to be fairly common right now in hand mixers. Is there some kind of contest? If you want a mixer you can actually use to gently fold in ingredients as well as handle higher power needs this Proctor Silex is going to be your best buddy.

The perfect hand mixer. Great slow speed to prevent your mix flying all over the kitchen
I had purchased another brand of hand mixer on Amazon that was a complete fail as far I am I concerned. There was no "slow" speed at all on that one. And it was LOUD! So, I decided to donate that mixer and order the Proctor Silex. What a great mixer! Varying speeds from low to high with boost, and it isn't very loud. Thanks Proctor Silex!

Seems to do what it's supposed to
This replaced the Proctor Silex hand mixer I'd had for about 30 years in which one of the beaters cracked a year ago but was still usable and then the motor burned out (smoke and all) during this last holiday baking season. I didn't use it on a weekly basis-- maybe once a month and then quite a bit over the holidays every year-- but it was obviously quite durable as well as compact. This new one I've only used once so far--it's okay. I was on a budget and there were so many negative reviews about so many hand mixers in all price ranges that I was afraid to spend too much and be disappointed. One thing I don't like is the speed adjustment button because it felt like there were only 3 speeds until I realized each notch has to be very gently adjusted as not to push through more than one at a time. (Not easy to do while in use and thus one-handed. ) Another thing I really don't like is that there is not a place on the base to wrap the cord around neatly for storage like my old one had. It is also very light weight which I don't know is a good or bad thing-- feels flimsy compared to my old one but I guess that doesn't necessary mean it won't be as durable.

Possibly the best beater we've owned.
The Proctor Silex 5-Speed + Boost Electric Hand Mixer with Powerful DC Motor for Effortless Mixing comes with just the two necessary beaters, which are the kind of thin twisted metal that are easiest to wash and not as easily gummed up with batter. It’s a beautiful matte black and gray. The beaters pop in securely, and the eject button operates smoothly, unlike a lot of beaters that require a bit of a struggle. Perhaps the best thing about this beater is the lower speeds that allow you to then amp up without creating a cloud of flour. It moves easily between speeds with a slide button lever, and the turbo' really does take it up a notch. This has a 'bowl-rest' feature, which is an indented area on the back of the beater than can 'hook' to a heavy enough bowl when mixer is turned off. I’m very happy with this beater, perhaps the best one I’ve ever owned.

Standard run of the mill hand mixer that runs super smooth and has 5 speeds
There's really nothing particularly noteworthy about the physical design of this hand mixer or the beaters. Both the mixer and the beaters are styled nearly identically to hand mixers and beaters covering the past 30 years. With that said, there are a few things functionally about this mixer:1. It's fairly quiet for a hand mixer.2. The beaters snap in place and come back out much easier than the last 2 hand mixers I've owned.3. I love having 5 speeds. The 5 speed settings make it so much easier to set the proper speed depending on the situation. 5 speeds are far better than the standard high and low, or 3 speeds.4. The mixer does not run hot, even when used heavily.Overall:This mixer is about as basic as you can get, outside of the 5 speed settings. However, it's rock solid, fairly quiet, and really performs well.Highly recommended5 stars
