Q: Can you use regular charcoal or mesquite hardwood instead of the pods?

No, the HERO Grill is designed for use only with the HERO charcoal pods and cannot be refilled with other charcoals. This is also what helps engineer the Hero be such a unique product because the Hero specific briquettes are what allow for such an even and quick heating grilling surface. Other fuels can permanently damage your grill frame and non-stick coating as well as voiding your warranty.

Q: can you use this in a covered lanai?

Hello! You could use this in a lanai. The grill is flameless and low VOC so it has very little smoke emission making it safe to use under a covered patio. The grill cannot be used indoors in a fully covered place but if you are in an outdoor space with a covered awning you will be able to use it.

This item includes the grill, the spatula, and one pod but no carry case or cutting board. Our HERO Grill System is a different item we offer that includes the grill, the carry case, the spatula, the cutting board, and one pod. I hope this helped!
