Excellent
The book provides a touching insight into the plight of the Metis in early Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Boyden gives us a good look at the personalities of Riel and Dumont and their passion and determination on behalf of their people. It is a sad chapter in our history, the way we settled some parts of this country without paying respect to those who were here from the onset.

Fantastic History Lesson
There is nothing to dislike about this book. There is everything to be gained of learning about these two brave and historic heroes Dumont and Riel. Joseph Boyden honors both these men with this truly fascinating and sad biography.

A Good Read
Not as in-depth as I would have thought. That said, I did indeed learn bits that I previously had not known. And this book comes from the perspective of a Metis which I found to be unique amongst most of the writings of authors on the subject. Short chapters allow you to read some, then pick up easily where you left off. A good read and recommended for all who wish to learn how the Canadian west came to be part of our nation.

and loved it so much I purchased it here
I first borrowed this book from the library, and loved it so much I purchased it here. It reads like a story and the language used animates the events in a way that make the historical information easy to absorb. I used this with my older children, though I enjoyed reading it myself.

Library addition for Louis Riel/Gabriel Dumont research
Am building a collection and this is but one item of many. I haven't yet read it in depth but look forward to doing so.
