I used the specialized drill bit (really highly recommend), and inoculated plug method into three very, VERY large diameter black logs (about 11" diameter by 7' long) and melted wax dripped onto each spot, and painted timberframing "wax" on the ends, so I was expecting the first "fruit" to pop 16 months to 18 months after setting in place. The other day, Thanksgiving, I looked out to my "shroom garden" and loe! there was one huge "fruit" growing from the top. I truly thought my friend had placed a different mushroom on this garden but when I went to brush it off, it did NOT budge... obviously because this was growing from the log; the first fruit. Grew at month 6. I have three aged oak logs as a base (I sprinkled them with Boric Acid to keep any contamination out), and then three fresh black/sugar birch logs (moved with my tractor) on top. All set in the pine tree shadowed deep corner of my back yard, so I can see it from my kitchen window. In the summer, there was about one hour of direct sunlight on this garden, so I blocked that out with a leaning old plywood sheet. When the season moved along, I moved the sheet to the side, and ready to use again next year. Wow, what a great tasting mushroom!! So fun to grow!! What a garden!! Almost as exciting as my Marquette Grape Trellis!

Bought these to try in sawdust bags. Haven’t bloomed them yet, but they are several weeks along and the bags are solid white with mycelium now. They are growing very well.

The company selling these really put a lot of effort into helping their customers. Included in the purchase you get a tiny e Evelio e containing a pamphlet with a LOT of great information regarding how to obtain the best logs, which type of wood goes great with which mushrooms, and the difficulty to grow certain mushrooms.
