Q: Can you use this in a carpet cleaning machine?

I th ink the website for the product gives complete instructions, but I don't believe so. Actually, I put it into a l pressure garden sprayer to get a controlled spray and hit the spots where it was worst. I think it gave me a better, more even spread. Good product, just not enough to get the smell complete out of that part of my funky carpet. Must have been the fiber of the material because I believe the chemistry of the process is spot on. BTW, I said in my previous review that I put down kitty litter to absorb some of the excess moisture and some of the chemical smell. DON'T DO THAT. I found later that the cat thought it was HIS litter and christened it. Pets! Can't live without them, Pass the rug cleaner. lol

We have used it on leather ottoman. The trick is to spray it on let sit for a bit wipe off and repeat. Usually you don't wipe off as the enzymes neutralize the odor.

No. This is a clear liquid that needs no shaking.

Q: what is the difference between the updated formula and the original ?

I'm not sure, but to be safe, based upon what I had read, I ordered the original formula. I have no regrets. Just be sure to follow the instructions, including the "test" part in an inconspicuous area. Rather than blot the stain, I used the extractor cycle on my rug shampooer. Worked wonders for me. Some folks think it is a little pricey but when I compare that to carpet replacement, suddenly it's a hell of a deal.
