This is an improved version over the first Singles release which had typically lazy management (for New Order compilations) with inaccurate listed versions, and many complained about the over loud mastering. This new "Singles" seems much similar to the "Total" compilation in sound. Adds a Lost Siren track that probably was planned as a single for the never finished Waiting for the Siren's Call sequel album which they had planned to split up the songs into two albums since (it was revealed years later) that they had spent too much money on the Sirens session.Of course all compilations can be argued with over what is included and what is missing. This compilation is a bit over obsessed with the single or 7" shortest edits. Some rare versions are welcome (but more for serious fans) while some probably could have just used the slightly longer less edited versions. Many of the more recent songs are actually improved by the radio edit. Ironically with New Order, their radio edits are probably the least familiar version of most tracks to most. "Murder" from 1984 is missing, it was an "A" side but I guess it isn't very "pop" thou I've always thought it was cool. Maybe they didn't want to mess with the sample rights for "Murder".The compilation could have been more complete/essential for the general fan by adding a few more non-single iconic "hits" since there is room, a few of New order's biggest "hits" never were singles, New Order refused to conform to the conventions in the Factory era. Why not add alternative radio favorites "Age of Consent", "Love Vigilantes", and "Paradise" to the first half, then put "Blue Monday 88" to lead off the second half?

This pressing is immaculate. Perfect vinyl. Definitely worth it if you like New Order and are a vinyl collector. Can't say enough about how good these records sound. Beautifully done and the collection of songs is fantastic. I like this much better than substance in the variety of the material. It's actually nice to have the shorter tracks as well because each of the songs presented are great and you don't get stuck into one for too long. I like that they chronologically ordered the songs as well through the release rather than mixing new and old next to each other. It has a nice flow this way.

This has everything. I love it, a few different mixes of some songs. New Order is the best!!!!

Excelente recopilación desde el inicio de su carrera.

2005年にリリースされた２枚組ベスト盤の改訂版。「ようやく、本来あるべき姿になった」という感慨がある。まず、全曲新たにFrank Arkwrightによってリマスターされている。この人は2011年にリリースされたJoy Division/New Orderのベスト盤『Total』でもすごくいい仕事をしていた人で。今回もお見事という他ない。1曲目の"Ceremony"のイントロのベースの音からして違う。2曲目の"Procession"もこれまでの音源からはあまり感じられなかった「（スネアの音色に特徴のある）マーティン・ハネットっぽさ」、JDと地続きのヒリヒリした音の感触に聴き入ってしまった。ただ、楽曲によっては音の分離が良すぎてスネアの音だけ浮いた感じに聴こえてしまう部分もあったりして、そこは好き嫌いが分かれるかも。とは言え、まだリマスター化されていない後期のアルバムの曲、特に『Republic』収録の"Ruined In A Day"なんかは元の音源と全然違って聴こえて、思わず「一刻も早く『Republic』と『Waiting For The Sirens Call』のリマスター盤を出してくれー！（もちろん、Frank Arkwrightによるリマスターで）」と言いたくなる仕上がりだった。選曲、というより収録曲のバージョンの選定に関しても今回初めてScott Littによるシングル・リミックスがCD化された"Run 2"や、前回はAlbum versionを編集したRadio Editで収録されていた"Spooky"が、FlukeによるMinimixだったり。前者はもしかしてAfrika Islamによるチャカポコしたリズムがオーバーダブされた12" Remixを短くしたバージョンかな、と危惧していたのだがちゃんとした7"バージョンだった。後者もリリース前に試聴が出来るサイトではminimixではなくAlbum versionの音源がアップされていたので不安だったが、大丈夫だった（ただし自分の購入したEU盤に関しては確認済みだが、日本盤は未購入なので不明）。それ以外に関してもConfusionやBizarre Love Triangleや1963等が2005年版から別のミックスに、Perfect KissとTrue Faithはエディットバージョンに差し替えられている。結局シングルリリースされなかった"Turn"ではなく少なくともプロモ盤で各種リミックスが出回った"Guilt Is A Useless Emotion"を収録してほしかったとか、『Lost Sirens』からは"I'll Stay With You"ではなく"Sugarcane（名曲！）"を入れて欲しかったとか、どさくさ紛れに"World (the price of love)"もPaul OakenfoldによるPerfecto Editに差し替えても良かったんじゃないの、とか重箱の隅をつつき始めたらキリがないのは承知だけれど、とりあえずこれだけは言わせて欲しい。CeremonyからTrue Faithまでの12インチバージョンを集めた名盤中の名盤『Substance』を、Frank Arkwrightのリマスターで聴きたい。自分がNew Orderの音源の中で一番好きな"Temptation"の87年バージョンをこの『Singles』と同じクオリティの音で聴けたら、それこそ本望である。２万円以上するようなボックスセットとかでもいいから、何卒頼みます。
