A Teacher's view of her work
Interesting poems but I was surprised that it was an award winning collection. Worth reading but I had hoped for more about the students and less about the teacher. However, the recent accusations of an admirable, well meaning teacher called Kate may make that less likely. I await her next collection.

Modern poetry at its best
Beautiful. Poignant. Real. The second part was too sad for me to read. But my trainee teacher daughter and I enjoyed part 1 immensely.

The Kids is a collection of sonnets written by Hannah Lowe. It splits into 3 parts, the first being the perspective of Hannah Lowe’s experiences of teaching, then the second Hannah Lowe’s experiences of school as a child and the third are poems written about parenting and her son. I could read The Kids over and over and not tire of it. It is playful and witty.

Fascinating and accessible sonnets
Life as a teacher and later parent vividly and graphically portrayed. Memorable, vivid pictures created by the author in short, powerful sonnets. A great read!
