Measures 4 1/4 from inside the dome to the bottom of the dome. It’s a nice piece, I’m impressed with the quality and versatility.

How smooth is the surface the cake will be on? It looks like it’s raised.

The plate is on a stand, but the plate is flat and smooth. Only problem I had was that when the cake was eaten only on one side, then the cake would slide and be toppled. I have compensated by that to move the cake more to the middle of the stand and it would be okay.

Could I use the wood ones for mexican Jello cake or flan?

Hi, I ordered the acrylic one, not the wood. If you have jello or flan on a plate or bowl you could use this. It's really pretty! hope this helps!

Will this dome fit over a three layer cake?

No. A two layer cake I made fit perfectly in there without room for another layer.
