Q: How many should i order for a 12x12 area?

36 tiles total to cover 144 square feet. That would be 6 x 6 pack, 3 x 12 pack, or a 30 pack plus a 6 pack. Yeah I know it's 2 years late but I just wanted to share the correct answer in case you haven't already taken the other pieces of advice.

Q: Has anyone used these under a pool (over concrete and rock in my situation)? Would these work well for that?

YES! They work great. Extend them a little beyond the pool edge where people get in and out, they a good non-slip surface that is easy on the feet and easy to keep clean.

Q: I'm planning on installing these in my basement. Will I need an under layment to avoid condensation or hasn't that been an issue?

has not been an issue. This is the second basement they have been in. although neither basement is a wet basement. They make a great workout area.
