Hell on Wheels, Season 5, Volume 1 [DVD]

I loved the series but the Season 5 DVD/BLU-Ray is not the complete season. It is only the first half of Season 5 at the same price I have paid for full seasons for this series. Shame on AMC for trying to milk more money out of fans and Shame on Amazon for not stating this was only a half season in the item description.

After looking at other reviews, I see I wasn't the only one duped by the "Season 5, Volume 1" scam. Shame on AMC for this consumer fraud, shame on Amazon for perpetuating it. Clearly, I won't be "purchasing" any more AMC products.And while I'm here...I'll agree that this series got weaker from Season 4 on. But it was still worth watching, and I thought they did a fair job of wrapping it all up from a historical perspective. There's a lot worse stuff out there...

A brilliant and captivating series with incredible acting, directing, scenery, and soundtrack, where even the would-be satisfaction of justifiable revenge is cold-stamped by one's own sense of humanity. This series is the Best of the West. But be forewarned that it isn't sugar-coated.The new and recurring actors are fantastic. Mount and Meaney deliver stellar performances. The storyline is nothing but enlightened and captivating yet brutal.The supreme villain is better than Voldemort, Vader, and Moriarity put together. He's worth the price of purchase alone. Only actor that ever made me want to punch a TV set, kudos to him!Beyond the astonishing sets and superb acting and storyline, I love how this series is backed with an acoustic guitar soundtrack that tactfully scores the spirit of the west.Reproachfully left unsaid are the intersections of the protagonist with the Colm Meaney, scenes which are pure dynamite, every single scene.This series is the Band of Brothers of the Union Pacific railroad story, highlighting profoundly humanity's perfections and imperfections to the last detail. This may sound like an indictment to cynics, but it is a highly satisfying ride. Give it a whirl without hesitation. Want the story of the West? You've got it here.

We love this show, and have ordered the collector's set, but this one just came today, and - oh, look - it's not the complete 5th season as it was listed on Amazon. Cheap shot, slightly pissed about this.

I totally overlooked this when it ran on TV a few years back.A friend loaned me the first 4 seasons on high recommendations. She was right. Very enjoyable western about the building of the transcontinental railroad. Some great acting, especially by the central character Bohannon and a major nemesis "The Swede". Two of the characters are real people involved with the RR building but not the 2 I mentioned. 3 if you count president Grant. But he was a given.Funny thing though, my friend didn't know there was a season five. Finding that out, I quickly bought Season Five.Get it and enjoy

I bought Season 5 to complete the set, and the entire series was outstanding. I hated to come to the end, but I knew they did eventually get the trans-continental railroad completed so I had assumed the series would end. I have no doubt I'll watch it over and over in the years ahead, so a good investment.I had absolutely no problems with any of the discs - all played just fine - but it does get tiresome to see the same warnings/ads/copyright infringement blurbs on EVERY episode! And they won't let you skip that garbage either, of course.

It’s Hell on Wheels what can you say but “Great Show”.I bought this so I would have something to watch with my dad when I visit my parents. He always liked a good western and this is definitely a good one. The video transfer was excellent and the sound was excellent. I mention these two things because that’s not always the case. I’ve bought movies online that had no sound or it said blu-ray but was really just SD labeled as blu-ray. Or the movie stated DTS HD Master (my favorite) only to find out it was only Dolby Surround (which isn’t bad, its just not DTS HD Master).Anyway, buy it, you’ll like it.

As others have noted, caveat emptor, AMC has elected to release the final 5th season of Hell on Wheels in two parts (just like they did for "Mad Men") dragging out the finish for another year. HOW has been an uneven show since about season 2 with #4 being the most inconsistent so it was gratifying to see this season bring a tighter story to the screen. The change in scenery to Truckee, CA and the Central Pacific RR highlighting the contributions of the thousands of Chinese immigrants who were employed in the process is interesting. The cinematography is spectacular and just beautiful to behold. We do eventually go back to the Union Pacific and Thomas Durant who's now in Laramie, WY. Series regulars Mickey the Irishman who's now a saloon/gambling/brothel kingpin is back as well as Eva who's his madam (and amateur frontier gynecologist in scenes which are graphic enough to turn off some viewers) and of course the murderous Swede. Bohannon is still looking for his Mormon wife and daughter but not too hard as his focus is the railroad. Tunneling through the mountains and harsh weather conditions along with dealing with the duplicitous Chinese leader provide plenty of diversions for our hero. Things are quickly heading to an explosive climax; completion of the Transcontinental RR and the race between the Union and Central Pacific companies and a final showdown with The Swede...too bad we'll have go wait until next year for the Part 2 release.

spellbinding entertainment, can't wait for season 5 volume 2 series. Newtown Video were great they contacted me prior to shipping to ensure that I knew that the DVD could only be played on region one DVD player. I received the DVD well before the shipping time quoted. Many Thanks

Awaited delivery eagerly as a birthday present for my husband. Unfortunately on trying to play it a message popped up - couldn't load as it was a foreign purchase. The series is brilliant this DVD unfortunately not so 😒

Bien reçu dans les délais. Impossible de le passer car le système belge ( européen) est incompatible. De plus , il n'y a pas de sous-titres en français. J'ai renvoyé ce DVD à l'expéditeur et ai demandé le remboursement. J'attends..... Amazon devrait être CLAIR QUANT AUX LANGUES DANS LESQUELLES LEUR DVD PEUVENT ÊTRE LUS!
