For big cities and carnivores
Planning a road trip to North Carolina and was hoping that this book would be enlightening on some great eateries in the southwest region of the state. The listed restaurants are primarily for Charlotte, NC (I am not going there), and for meat eaters (I eat fish but not meat). No diversity of locations or restaurant cuisines in this book. As a first generation Italian-American that grew up in Chicago, I'm an intrinsic foodie. So I looked up the Illinois section in the book. Mostly Italian beef and hot dog joints. Really?!? What about The Chicago Diner? Piece Brewery? Pequods? Lou Mitchell's? Volare? Have the authors really taken the time to explore the states about which they write? Road travelers' best bet is to visit online sites such as TripAdvisor (you can check "quick bites" if you're short on time, and select by cuisine) and TimeOut. As restaurants open and close all the time, especially in a post-covid world, these are essential go-to resources and free so you will save the 20 bucks wasted on this book.

A Family Trip Must Have
There is no greater joy in life than planning a roadtrip - filling up the day with scenic byways, national and state parks to stop and visit, and of course the three meals a day that can make or break any roadtrip experience. Bought this book on a whim and have never been disappointed with a recommendation as I've shuttled the family around Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Ohio. You can plan your driving days around the restaurants in this book. It's also fantastic that the restaurants they recommend are typically reasonably priced, family friendly, and packed with locals who share their history and experiences with you as you eat. Get off the interstate, avoid the fast food chains, and saddle up to some amazing out of the way comfort food. A must have!

Good idea, but we have internet for generic recommendations
Admire the idea and work that went into this. Bought this because I was driving cross-country with my aunt on a relocation move. Didn’t use it: 1) would have liked to see them on a map so I can tell if we are passing through the area. 2) too few recommendations too far apart for each state. 3) didn’t necessarily agree with the ones that I had already experienced, so therefore couldn’t trust the ones I hadn’t 4) would’ve liked a clearer reason/learn more how these were scored, better reason for me to go out of my way to visit.... and finally, 5) its a lot easier to find ratings on Yelp/other internet rankers to find interesting restaurants.

Not as a extensive compilation as I expected
In a normal year I do a lot of business travel and I was interested in finding restaurants that were in the areas that I was visiting. However, I was disappointed in the number of restaurants provided in the book - very limited in each state . While it is titled Roadfood, it didn't really provide a listings of restaurants that could be easily identified into a road trip. The maps provided in the book were very generic and didn't show highways to find restaurants along a planned route. I was also disappointed in the number of restaurants per state. For instance, there we none listed in the Cape Cod area, only a couple in the very long US 1 in the Florida Keys, none in the golf mecca of Myrtle Beach, etc. It is doubtful that I will use this book enough to justify the cost. So I guess I will still rely on Yelp and other on-line resources.
