The Complete Dramatic Works of Samuel Beckett (Faber Drama)

Genius is an understatement
I confess to being near obsessed with Waiting for Godot, I've read the play twice, watched it performed on Youtube twice. Malloy is also quite well done. I seldom read books or plays more than once, not so with Beckett. His stuff I read and read again.

Read while watching the DVDs.
Beckett's language - his poetry - is stupendously beautiful.

All the Plays in one place
What could be bad about all Beckett's plays in one book? Waiting for Godot 'the only play in which nothing happens, twice', Endgame 'playing for a certain end' and Krapp's Last Tape 'the reappraisal of a life' are all here, together with other gems.

He sucked up more than his share
Beckett dropped here from mercury. They cod on he's from Foxrock! He sucked up more than his share, leaving no juice for me. I blame him for my failures. I blame him for the extra hole I have to put in my belt leather. I haven't done a solid discharge in three years, even my excreta can't wait to be shot of me. Why did you have to be so whet Samuel? Why so precise? You could have left a small bit for me. Just a morsel. xx

Works of genius in a crap edition
I'm not going to use review to critique Beckett's work; if you are thinking of buying this you probably already have an idea what you think. I do want to say, however, that the physical edition is dreadful - looks beautiful but has a rigid spine and pages that fall out at the slightest pressure. Quite pricey for a paperback that quickly becomes ...well, just loose paper.

Genius
Such a perfect literary career and ,like Shakespeare ,one of the real chroniclers and dissectors of life as it really is...

Falling apart
I have nothing bad to say about the contents of Beckett's work but the book itself is falling apart after minimal use. Pages are coming loose in some sections and others have fallen out completely, I'm worried that I'll lose some of the text.
