Q: Does the valve in the lid come out for cleaning? I threw out my directions and now can't figure out how to remove it.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "valve" but here's what I do to clean them: I unscrew the lid so it is separate from the bottle, and I leave the cover on the spout open. Then I have been soaking the bottles and the lids in a small sink of hot soapy water with about a tablespoon bleach added to it. They don't need to soak for more than about five minutes. But don't add more than a tablespoon of the bleach to the water. This should help to clean and sanitize all parts of the lid, spout, as well as the bottle. But don't add more than a tablespoon of bleach to the hot soapy water and make sure to thoroughly rinse everything before you use it.

Q: Does it fit in a cupholder?

It depends on which size you get. The 40oz size won't fit in a cup holder the diameter of it is too big. But the 24oz probably will fit a standard size cup holder. Both sizes of this water bottle have a twist-to-lock cover on the spout and a really good seal on the lid, so these water bottles are pretty much spill-proof as long as you put the lid on tight and lock the cover on the spout. Also, both sizes of this water bottle have carrying handles on the lid, so you have the option to get a carabiner clip, which are sold at most hardware stores, a large one shouldn't cost you more than about five dollars. So if a cup holder is not an option for some reason, you can hook a carabiner clip onto the handle of the water bottle and then you can hang the bottle on something to carry it hands-free.

Q: Can it contain hot water?

Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend this one for that, as I would use a stainless one for hot water items
