OptiVISOR 3.5x at 4in - DA-10

I found a very old version of an optivisor in my dad’s shop and borrowed it for a few weeks till I realized this is a must have — so I bought my own. It’s a great piece of equipment and helps with so many tasks where you need to see close up. I added the optiloupe which adds and additional 2.5x lens for the occasional ultra close up when needed. Nice to have both hands free and be able to add additional magnification. I researched for 2+ weeks before buying this, and watched tons of YouTube videos by experts who explain all the various options for magnification. For me, the ability to wear it on top of my regular progressive glasses is a big plus. And I also like the ability to have hands free use (compared to holding up a loupe or other magnifying device). I thought about buying the cheaper chinese model but decided to go with the original. So I paid $50 instead of $25 — but to me well worth it. I can say first hand it will last well beyond my lifetime and my kids and grandkids will be able to use it. The quality is superb. I also considered the extra value of getting multiple lens but realistically only preferred to use the #10 lens for most things. So I decided to pay more for the better quality and just buy the one instead of the chinese version with all lenses which seemed to use lesser quality fasteners and material. The only complaint I have is that if you buy the optiloupe you also need to buy a separate tooth lock washer or it won’t stay tightened. I learned this from seeing how my dad gerry rigged his old school optivisor. The loupe swings up and down flawlessly without loosening the nut. This isn’t the case on the new one I just bought. But easy fix — just get a tooth lock washer as shown in photo. Internal or external will work just fine.

Ideal glass lens!

As I suspected given the low price, the head magnifier I received was not a Donegan Optical unit. The unit I received was made in China. it includes 4 interchangeable magnifying lenses from 1.5x - 3.5x. The lenses appear to be glass. The headband has a generous range of adjustment for head size and the side knurled knobs for adjusting lens swivel are easy to fine tune the tension. Other than the bait and switch aspect of the transaction I'm satisfied with the purchase as the device is well made and meets my needs.

There is no dislike for this item works as expected.

Just like my old one but now I have 2 powers and focal lengths. Meets all my requirements so far. If I have need of other configurations, I will just order another Donegan. Great service and fast shipping.
