This projector is fabulous - a great picture for a great price
This projector is fabulous - a great picture for a great price, and definitely more bang for the buck than many TVs on the market. I have a dedicated media room with no windows, so a projector was ideal for this location. It replaced a 65" LG LCD/LED TV, which had a great picture itself, but the 100 inches I get from this projector blows it away. I paired this projector with a Cheetah ceiling mount and a Silver Ticket Products 100" screen. The projector is easy to use and has a crystal clear high definition picture. Installation of the projector can be a little tricky, just because it has limited zoom capability and picture shifting. My media room configuration dictated a ceiling installation directly above the seating area. My wife really liked the fact that the "projection cone" from the projector doesn't easily get blocked by people who stand up from the couch. I've seen several complaints about the fan noise from the projector, but I have found the projector to be very quiet. Another issue noted is a "rainbow effect", which neither me or my wife have seen thus far. The projector is quite bright, even when not in "Bright" mode, but I've found that reduced lighting (dimmed to ~50%) is ideal for TV shows and gaming, while a dark or mostly dark room is ideal for movies. I use this projector with a Yamaha AV receiver, so all of my inputs (DirecTV, Blu-Ray, Nintendo Wii) get switched at the receiver and allow for a single HDMI cable to go to the projector, and I get full surround sound. One recommendation here - buy the projector first and try it out in your viewing space. Play around with the projection settings to figure out what kind of screen size you can get, what the throw distance is, and what kind of mount you need. This allowed me to pick the right screen and mount for my setup.

I would give this thing 10 stars if I could
ok, so I been playing around with those cheap $60-$120 projectors and have just been disappointed. The stated lumens are usually high and are a joke and are no where near their actual brightness. I want to shout this from the roof tops. I LOVE this projector! It is so amazingly bright, even in eco mode. I can have my lights on overhead, light coming in through the slits in the curtain, all in the middle of the day and I can clearly see the picture. Sure the colors are somewhat washed out but it is still a very clear picture. In complete darkness it is OUTSTANDINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! So bright that it actually hurts my eyes a little. I know its something you have to get used to. Happened to me on my very first big screen tv. took us weeks to get used to it then lol. The 1080p picture is just so clear and amazing. Its clarity in the dark actually beats my 65inch tv. I been messing around with those cheap projectors and they had me convinced that a projector just wasnt worth having. If it wasnt for a friend of mine who has some very high end equipment encouraging me to step up to the $500 price range, he assured me I would not be disappointed. After dealing with these 320x240 native resolutions and even 560x500 ones, I was done. I listened to my friend though and started searching. A lot of youtube videos raved about this projector and the video reviews had given me some very high expectations. They did not disappoint! The best I can describe it is, it was like going from a 100 inch sd screen to a 100 inch of in your face 1080p greatness where you can see the pores on the peoples faces. It was the exact same feeling when I went from SD to HD all those years ago and saw my very first show and was just totally blown away. I seriously just can not even imagine how much better the higher end models must be. Its just inconceivable at this point for me. I am 100% perfectly content at 1080p on this projector. There are some minor issues I have. The menu system is somewhat cumbersome. Why is power to the usb port OFF by default? That just seems wrong. It took me about 10 minutes of going through the menus to try and figure out why my firestick wasnt working. The sound is very loud, Thats a plus, its also a minus that there is literally 0 bass. Its so tinny that it actually hurts your ears. It will eventually get hooked up to my surround sound so I guess its ok. Overall, the complaints are very minor to goodness that is everything else about it.

GAMING HEAVEN! : )
I'M STUNNED! TALK ABOUT BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO BLUERAY MOVIES & PLAYSTATION 4 GAMES. THIS PROJECTOR IS JUST AMAZING IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. NO ONLINE VIDEOS OR PICTURES WOULD DO IT JUSTICE. IT'S SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE FOR YOURSELF. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE MY OWN HOME THEATER WHERE I CAN JUST KICK BACK & TRULY ENJOY MOVIES THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT TO BE SEEN. THIS PRODUCT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS IN EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE. AS A FIRST TIME BUYER, I BELIEVE I NAILED IT ON THE FIRST SHOT! I PRETTY MUCH TESTED THE PROJECTOR WITH THE DEFAULT SETTINGS. PLACED IT ON A SMALL MEAL TABLE ABOUT 6.5 FEET FROM THE WALL & IT DISPLAYED A 57 INCH ( DIAGONAL ) SCREEN ON MY PLAIN LIGHT COLOR BEDROOM WALL. FAMILY CAME INTO THE ROOM WHILE I WAS TESTING BLUERAY MOVIES VIA THE PLAYSTATION 4 & THEY HAD TO DO A DOUBLE TAKE ON THE QUALITY OF THE PROJECTION DISPLAYED ON MY WALL. IT LITERALLY RIVALS HIGH END HD 1080 P TELEVISIONS THAT COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. MY BEDROOM IS ABOUT 8 FT WIDE BY 12 FT LONG & 9.5 FT HIGH. IF I PROJECT FROM THE WIDE POSITION ACROSS TO THE WALL I GET ABOUT A MAX OF 67 INCH DISPLAY. IF I PROJECT LENGTH WISE & PLACE THE PROJECTOR ABOUT 11.5 FT DISTANCE FROM THE WALL I'M ABLE TO FILL A 100" DIAGONAL SCREEN ACROSS THE ROOM. I THOUGHT IT WAS AMAZING AT 67 INCHES WHEN I FIRST TESTED IT. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED IT FROM 11.5 FEET AWAY WITH A BLUERAY DISC MY JAW DROPPED! IT'S LITERALLY LIKE BEING AT A MOVIE THEATER ENJOYING A PRIVATE SCREENING OR SOMETHING. IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. THE IMAGE IS SHARP, THE COLORS ARE VIBRANT & THE ENTIRE SETUP JUST DRAWS YOU IN. ALL THE GAMES I TRIED ON THE PS4 LOOKED FANTASTIC. NO BLURRY DISTORTED DISPLAY OF ANY KIND. CRISP & CLEAR AFTER A QUICK FOCAL ADJUSTMENT. ALL THE GAMES FELT LIKE NEW AGAIN. THEY LOOKED THE WAY THE DEVELOPERS INTENDED THEM TO BE EXPERIENCED. IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING AN ARCADE MACHINE, FORGET IT. GET THIS INSTEAD! IF YOU HAVE THE SPACE TO PROJECT ANYTHING OVER 55" I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND GIVING THIS PROJECTOR A SHOT. IF YOU HAVE NEVER WATCHED A HIGH DEFINITION MOVIE OR PLAYED HD VIDEO GAMES ON A DISPLAY AT OR ABOVE 55" AT HOME YOU MUST TRY IT. I'M TELLING YOU, IT'S A MUCH RICHER EXPERIENCE. WHEN I PURCHASE THE DISPLAY SCREEN I'M SURE IT WILL BE EVEN MORE STUNNING. FOR NOW THE 67" DISPLAY FROM 7 FT AWAY WILL KEEP ME ENTERTAINED IN THE MEANTIME. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE OPTOMA VESA 3D EMITTER & TWO PAIRS OF THE OPTOMA RF 3D GLASSES. WORKS FLAWLESS AFTER CHANGING THE 3D OPTION TO UTILIZE VESA TECHNOLOGY WITHIN THE OPTOMA HD142X PROJECTOR MENU. PS4 GAMES LIKE TRINE & ZEN PINBALL ARE EXCELLENT GAMES TO SHOWCASE THE 3D GLASSES. IT LOOKS AMAZING! ALTHOUGH PS4 HAS ABOUT 15 GAMES WHICH SUPPORT 3D GLASSES YOU CAN EASILY THROW ON A 3D BLUERAY MOVIE OR LOAD UP HD 4K SBS ( SIDE BY SIDE ) VIDEOS FROM THE PS4 YOUTUBE APPLICATION TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR INVESTMENT. YOUTUBE HAS TONS OF FREE 3D SBS DEMOS & MANY CLIPS AVAILABLE FOR FREE. THE PROJECTOR SUPPORTS SIDE BY SIDE, TOP / BOTTOM & AUTO MODE IF YOU USE THE OPTOMA VESA EMITTER WITH THE RF 3D GLASSES. I HAVEN'T THOROUGHLY TESTED MY COMPUTER YET BUT I'M SURE IT OFFERS ALOT MORE CONTENT THAN THE PS4. WITH ACCESS TO TONS OF VIDEO STREAMING SITES & GAMING SERVICES LIKE STEAM YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY OF CONTENT TO EXPLORE. THE PC HAS A DVI-D VIDEO CARD CONNECTOR SO I USED A DVI TO HDMI CABLE TO CONNECT IT TO THE PROJECTOR BRIEFLY WHICH WORKED FLAWLESS. I DID NOT MOUNT MY PROJECTOR TO THE CEILING BUT MAY DO SO IN THE FUTURE. FOR NOW I LET IT SIT ON A SMALL PORTABLE MEAL TABLE WHICH ALLOWS ME TO PROJECT THE IMAGE TO MY BEDROOM WALL. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROJECTOR TO GAMERS & ANYONE INTERESTED IN AN AMAZING HOME THEATER EXPERIENCE. IT'S WORTH IT! TIPS GET A GRAY SCREEN & NOT A WHITE DISPLAY. THE GRAY SCREEN WORKS BETTER IN AMBIENT LIGHT & ABSORBS THE BLACK COLORS NICELY DISPLAYING A MORE DETAILED PICTURE BASED ON MY RESEARCH. HOWEVER, IT'S MOST EFFECTIVE IF YOU HAVE SIDE WINDOWS LEAKING LIGHT IN. UPDATE: I'M LEARNING AS I GO SO I CAME BACK TO PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL INFO. IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH ALOT OF 3D MOVIES WITH YOUR PROJECTOR YOU MAY WANT TO GO WITH A WHITE SCREEN INSTEAD WITH AT LEAST A 1.2+ GAIN. MAYBE EVEN A 1.4 GAIN TO ENSURE ENOUGH REFLECTIVITY TO HANDLE THE 3D IMAGE. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A 1.1 PROJECTOR SCREEN ADJUST YOUR PROJECTORS BRIGHTNESS & CONTRAST SETTINGS WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING SOME 3D CONTENT TO IMPROVE THE OUTPUT. RELECTIVE SCREENS ARE BETTER SUITED FOR A SMALLER VIEWING AUDIENCE WHILE LOWER GAIN 1.1 SCREENS DISTRIBUTE THE LIGHT MORE EVENLY ACROSS THE SCREEN ALLOWING A LARGER AUDIENCE TO GET A SIMILAR VIEWING EXPERIENCE FROM A WIDER SEATING ANGEL. ( A GRAY SCREEN MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR 3D MOVIE WATCHING DUE TO IT'S LOWER SCREEN GAIN ) IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET A SCREEN MAKE SURE IT'S TENSIONED BASED IN ORDER TO AVOID THE LINES & IMPERFECTIONS YOU WILL MOST LIKELY EXPERIENCE WITH THE AVERAGE PROJECTOR DISPLAY SCREENS. NEVER ENCLOSE THE PROJECTOR WITHIN AN ENTERTAINMENT CENTER, BOOK SHELF OR A POORLY OXYGENATED AREA WHILE IN OPERATION. YOU WANT TO KEEP THE PROJECTOR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID A SHORT LAMP LIFE. DON'T MOUNT THE PROJECTOR ON THE CEILING AT AN ANGLE! THIS PROJECTOR MUST BE MOUNTED HORIZONTALLY OR YOU MAY CAUSE DAMAGE & VOID THE WARRANTY. SETTING THE PROJECTOR TO ECO MODE SLIGHTLY REDUCES THE BRIGHTNESS BUT HAS NO REAL IMPACT ON OVERALL EXPERIENCE. IT WILL HELP EXTEND THE LAMPS LIFE SPAN. TO TURN OFF THE PROJECTOR WITH THE REMOTE YOU MUST TAP THE OFF BUTTON TWICE FOR IT TO SHUTDOWN THE PROJECTOR AS STATED WITHIN THE PROVIDED INSTRUCTIONS.

Amazing projector at an affordable price!
I received my Optoma HD142X today and decided to give it a test run on a pedestal before I have it permanently mounted on the ceiling. Upon powering on the unit having had the hdmi cable from my reciever (focusing the unit with the wheel above the lens) I was greeted with the logo screen and then I started the setup. The initial setup was easy. I chose my language and my current position of my projector and that was enough to get me started. I turned on my source (PS4) and compared the picture projected on a white wall with the picture on my 55" Sony Bravia 4K. They were very similar in color and with it being 3pm and ample lighting coming in through the windows I was very pleased to be able to see the image clearly. I then went into the main menu and turned the lamp setting to cinema and eco modes and was pleasantly surprised to seen that I still had no trouble making out the images with the ambient lighting coming in the windows. I adjusted the keystone using the remote and also adjusted the projector footings until my image was level and again these were very easy steps to accomplish. I decided to try out the 3D so I switched over to my PS3 which plays 3D better than the PS4 (audio sync is way better). I popped in Zootopia 3Dbluray and the projector determined that the source was 3D automatically and asked if I wanted to switch to 3D and gave me the options of DLPLink, VESA or 2D to 3D of which I chose DLP-Link and then proceeded to sync my glasses (not included). I started up the movie took a seat and felt like I was in a theater watching the movie all over again. The colors and images popped off of the wall and it was still daytime. I made myself stop watching after about 30 mins and decided that I would do a real test once the sun went down. Before I turned off the projector I took out a measuring tape and measured the disgonal which was about 97-98". It does get pretty warm which is to be expected but the fan was doing a wonderful job of and I could barely hear it when it was on and I definately did not hear it while the movie was playing. I came back and started up a different movie. This time I reminded myself to take a picture, though the pictures dont do the projector justice you have to see it for yourself! I would definately recommend it to anyone looking for a projector!

Awesome projector!
Been piecing together a home theater setup, and this was the only thing I bought new. Overall, the reviews I'd seen online through here and other sites were pretty dang accurate. For my 92" screen, I keep it at about 10'. I mounted it from the ceiling, so it requires the screen to be flipped. Extremely easy to setup & configure. Doesn't use a standard 4 screw VESA mount system. There are only 3 screws holding it to the mount. So if you don't buy a mount made specifically for an Optoma projector, it will likely take some modifications. The screen at this distance and size works perfectly day or night. Including with the two windows open during the day. Sun doesn't bother it, because it's that bright. During the summer sun, it may mean I need to put some curtains up, but we'll cross that bridge when the time comes. For now, it doesn't affect anything. The speaker on the unit works, it's crappy sound, but that's not a flaw. I bought it for the video, not to listen to movies through. Overall, this is what I call the top of the line of the budget projectors. Could you get better? Sure, but it will cost you likely 3x as much. Heck, even some of the $1k projectors my friends have won't work as good as this. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a great picture at a bargain price.

Excellent product so far ! Will write detail review soon! update 8/10/16 This is my second ever projector and-and my previous projector was from optima as well about 4 years back I bought this after my earlier projector lens just melted while running continuously for hours. I am quite a heavy user of projector about 6 to 7 hrs every day. My last projector lasted me 4 1/2 years with almost daily use and one lamp replacement. the replacement seems to have played roles in extra heat and melting bossiness of lens ( not Lamp !) I was again in the market looking for a projector and obviously looked for another optimum as It really worked well for me before. In this price range $600 there are not many choices if you are looking for configuration of native HD, 3D capable and 3000+ lumens. I have used other brands( Epson, dell )as part of my job and have nothing against it but I still like optima of the whole package ad the price point. Now this projector Recently released model that didn't deter me from buying as I feel ok by optima already Nice packing by optima and then by amazon which made safe delivery possible. Picture quality is amazing on online HD videos, of movies , TVshows and things from hard disk Decent speaker on it can be used occasionally but would need better speaker if watching movies approx 100 inches from 10 feet enough lumens for daytime viewing ,I have a lot of windows with some shades on , much better in ambient lights and in dark . 2 HDMI , one with MHL, Audio out Excellent color reproduction , mamboing contrast , do very well in dark scenes. Blacklist remote ( new for me ) Minimal fan noise 3 D works really well , Watched Avatar from my hard disk , the world well with my DLP glasses( bought 4 years ago ) , Lot of 3 D options in many DLP /Vesa /2D to 3D. First time for to use #D on projector , was amazed at the quality Thins that could be better Remotely is not very responsive my last Optoma came with carrying cover/bag free of cost will update more later

DO NOT BUY! I made my research and had the product... just for a couple weeks.
I hope this helps those who take a long time doing a research before buying something over $500. I purchased this projector in the month of February 2018 after a long research on different projectors, brands, quality, etc... I chose this item because it promised reasonable quality for a good price. So I bought this and a $70 dollar projector screen. As soon as it arrived, I opened it and tried to use it. I did not work. The LED lights gave a lamp error. I had to return it and have it replaced. The week after I received the replacement. And it worked! I do have to say, the quality is great. It looks pretty clear at day and night. Here's the thing. I may have used it for about 6 to 8 movies total in less than 3 months and then all of the sudden, it stopped working. It gave me the same lamp error. I kept it in a good location protected from dust and heat or cold. It never fell to the ground, nor got hit by anything. I submit a return request. They graciously accepted (almost didn't). The worst is that apparently depreciation made it lose almost a $200 value in less than three months. Therefore what I will get back will be WAY less than what I paid for it. I then tried to get a replacement because I didn't want to lose money but they said that they couldn't replace more than once even though the first projector I receive was already broken. So I am now waiting for my refund. Moral of the story is. It is a good projector for a way too short period of time. Then, if you try to return it or replace it, you will end up losing money, if not all of it. BE CAREFUL! PS: If you are looking to buy a projector and need a projector screen, let me know. I think I will just resell mine since I don't have a projector anymore and Amazon won't let me return it.

Phenomenal Home Projector for General and Home Theater Use
This is the third projector I have owned. I can truly say the manufacturers description is spot on. The projector is used as our main television in an upside down mount approximately 13 feet from the wall that has screen quality paint for a 93 inch diagonal screen. The room has ambient light through the windows that is semi-bright in the afternoons (windows are behind projector). The picture quality is fantastic. We use a Denon receiver that has pass through HDMI with Xfinity HD and XBox One HD/Blu-ray as sources. The picture is perfect and there are no lagging during game play. My wife often has a lamp or two on while watching television programs or news. The picture is clear and viewable. The projector is virtually silent as it is practically right above our seating position. The only con is blamed on my room setup, and desire no to extend the bulb life as long as possible by not putting the projector in bright mode - but during the bright afternoons, if we are watching a movie like a thriller with a lot of dark scenes, we do have to close our room darkening blinds (from local retailer) to preserve picture quality. It is a cheap and easy fix. It is worth mentioning that this was the second optima HD142X projector I purchased. The first one had a defective cooling fan. I was unsure that is was not normal not having heard this model while operating. I returned it to Amazon without interruption (cross-shipped). The new one has been flawless!
