Cheating: An Inside Look At The Bad Things Good Nascar Nextel Cup Racers Do In Pursuit Of Speed

Bad to Worse
As a racing fan of various disciplines I was interested to learn of some of the cheating that had always been talked about in NASCAR. I thought the book would be a fast easy read but the further I got into it the more it labored on. The supporting background was filled with dates, tracks and more information that I needed. Bathroom reading at the best skimming a Chapter at a time. I was looking for the humor in the cheating rather than a documentary that explained how NASCAR changed to level the playing field. Maybe that's NASCAR's problem with attendance.

Cheating in NASCAR?
Ever wonder how a driver comes from the back of the pack with 10 laps to go and takes the lead? You know his car timed within a fraction of second of the other competitors, yet he still passes them with ease. If you suspect his car has a little "magic burst" of power that shouldn't pass the NASCAR tech inspectors, you're probably spot on. This book exposesmany of the tricks drivers and crew chiefs have used to gain that competitive edge. Some are streching the existing ruleto their advantage, or using technology that is not yet in the rulebook. However, most examples presented are blatantcheats. Crew chiefs, drivers, and owners rationalize it all by saying "everyone else does it". Human nature causes us to takeextra chances when there's a lot of money involved; but in the end this book will make you realize that we (the fans) are theones who get cheated the most.
