Stunning conclusion to John, Becca and Tommy's story
Coast (Kick Push #2) by Jay McLean4.5 stars!!!“Somewhere over the rainbow…”Coast is the much anticipated sequel to Kick Push and continues from where Kick Push left off and has also been on my most highly anticipated book list for this year. To say that I was anxious to read this one is a huge understatement. Jay McLean never fails to deliver a book that is chock full of emotion and intense character connection and Coast is no different.“At least now I’ve kicked, and it’s her turn to push.”Josh, Tommy and Becca commandeered my heart in Kick Push, as always with Jay McLean her characters are unforgettable and the love that I had for this trio only amplified in Coast. I’m not going to go into any real details as this book is one of those ones that deserves to be read as the author intended but I am going to just mention some of my thoughts and feelings instead.“She’ll always be his girl. Even if she has no idea she is.”Josh…this single dad captivated my heart from the outset of this series, he was a selfless person that put his son first always. The love he has for his son is intensely swoon worthy and ovary combusting and their relationship is brought to life in vivid detail with Jay McLean’s words. But his love and generosity wasn’t limited to his family though. Having been on the bread line with nothing and no support Josh was thankful for the help he got when he needed it most and reciprocated with his own generosity and time. It is this trait that makes him one of my favourite heroes, he really was the epitome of perfect. Three things changed his life forever…the birth of Tommy, meeting Grams and loving Becca and he has never forgot either of them. These three events made Josh who he was today and the high regard he holds these people in is prevalent throughout this book and will only make you love him all the more. Josh Warden has cemented his place on my list of BBF’s.“He wears his pain on his sleeves, and hides his joys in his heart, because he’s so damn terrified of losing them.”Becca has been through so much in her life and while for a time they defined her, she is now in a place where she is going from strength to strength. Time away from Josh has enabled her to attend college and therapy, two things that are giving her back a life that she so richly deserves. Her reconnection with her father is tough and is fraught with its own problems but her dad tries his hardest to make up for the eighteen years of his absence and it was actually great to see them try and mend their own bridges. When Becca and Josh’s lives intersect once again though, will the past come bac to haunt them or will they be able to move on and reignite a love that once burned so fiercely?“My safe place is the knowledge that when I fall, they will help me fly. Help me soar. Help me coast.”Tommy, this kid stole my heart in Kick Push and he totally decimated it in Coast. This kid is wise before his time and every scene where he was present either made me laugh hysterically or cry just as bad. This kid…this kid…I want him, I want to kidnap him and have him all for myself. He stole every scene and this is one kid I will never ever forget. I’m going to hound Jay for a Tommy book.“We loved in ways that can’t be explained, hurt in ways that can’t be justified.”Grams, this lady is such a pivotal character and she has a huge part to play in this book, with age comes a whole heap of issues and dementia is just one of the many evils life throws are our beloveds. This storyline really resonated deep for me, as we too are looking after a family member who has been debilitated by this disease. But Gram’s personality still shines throughout and she added so much to this book.Jay McLean has penned another emotional read that is filled with all those feels that I crave. The path to true love never runs smooth and for Josh and Becca there are a lot of bends, curve balls and issues that need to be travelled. But this story ran true to Josh and Becca’s back story and I am so glad that Jay McLean really thought through and considered every aspect of their reconnection. This book made me cry, made me laugh but most of all it made me love. I know this is fiction but when an author truly nails it, you live and breathe their lives and for two books I have been consumed by these characters. Another fantastic series from Jay McLean and once again a totally unforgettable read.“Josh: You hope for a better tomorrow.Becca: And if it doesn’t come?Josh: Then you cherish a greater yesterday.”

Firetrucking Brilliant !
f you haven’t read the first book, Kick Push, i would very highly advise reading it first. This is probably one of the most difficult review’s i have ever written. I am not usually at such a loss for words to describe how much i love a story and the journey i travel with characters who you get so invested in. This book should really come with a health warning. because you will lose your heart to not just Josh, Tommy and Becca, but to every word and character within these pages…. So i am going to try, to find the words to express to you how utterly emotionally, heart shattering, hope inducing, fire trucking, skateboarding freaking great this book is !!I started reading this book, feeling very apprehensive, worried about Josh, Tommy and Becca, knowing that their worlds had crashed around them. Both struggling to survive in a world that means they are apart and broken. Josh is climbing to the top of the skating world and on the outside life is great, but inside he struggles, life so far has shown him that the people who “love” you and the ones that should be there for you, just leave you, your on your own and he is determined for Tommy never to feel that.Becca, an amazing young woman, but so terribly broken, and knowing nothing of love, except that it means hurt, pain and abuse, and her past invades her future filling her with fears she can’t overcome, even though the only time she has ever felt that love is possible is with Josh.Josh still remains living in his apartment at Chazarae’s, still never giving up on having Becca back in his and Tommy’s life, he can’t and won’t ever move on. During a skating tournament, he finds Becca to be the one to interview him for her University’s paper. And his world turns upside down yet again, as does Becca’s. But its during this time that Josh also finds that Becca has a “boyfriend” and he’s devastated. Becca struggles so hard, she’s working with therapists, and doing everything she can to try to put her past where it belongs and learn to live. She doesn’t feel worthy of either Josh or Tommy who she adores.Right at this point my emotions were just about shredded. Becca, omg what she achieved, her strength, her determination to face her fears, the love she had within her, that she was totally unaware of, when her past chased her, leaving her in dark horrible places, she clawed her way through. When you are so invested in these characters, when it stops becoming a book because you are right there with them, going through this with them, and your devastated because you can’t see how life can heal them to let them find their way back. This author just keeps binding you closer and closer into their web, and holds your heart in the palm of her hands. Just when you think you might be able to breathe again, they might just get that chance, tragedy strikes yet again!!!And again Josh show’s just how amazing he really is, his pain and his grief, takes second place to Tommy and Rebecca. He steps up always trying to make things right. He never fails to let Becca know how much he loves her and will always love her. He never fails. Tommy, WOW just Wow, him and Becca’s relationship just melts your heart“If you want me to fight for you, I will. I you want me to go to war for you, I ******* will. You know that. Somewhere, deep in here” – he places his hand on my chest and my eyes snap open, meeting his – “You know I would. But you need to give me a sign so i know that it’s not for nothing.” – Josh WardenSo much happens in this book and I really don’t want to give too much away because you really need to read this book, each and every character in this book, will forever earn a truly special place in your heart, i sobbed with them, i laughed with them, i cried uncontrollably with them, i lived their story with them i felt their pain with them and you will too !!Jay McLean you are the Queen of Emotion, it takes a lot and a special talent to write words that draw us so deeply into Josh, Tommy and Rebecca’s world, i’m an emotional wreck but Thank you. Firetrucking Brilliant !!!

Review | Coast
I don't even know what to write because i'm pretty sure Jay broke me. This book was such an emotional rollercoaster and i loved every minute of it. I'm sorry if this review is basically asdfghjkl but i just loved this book so much and i can't stop gushing.Coast takes place exactly where Kick, Push left off. Josh has made a name for himself in the world of skateboarding while Becca is trying to be just another college student. As the story progresses we see how both Becca and Josh have struggled with what happened and how they are trying to cope. The journey is hard and hits quite a few bumps and heartaches along the away. Jay paints a realistic picture that love isn't always easy. In some cases it takes a huge amount of time and patience. The end result and the person is what makes it worth fighting for.So will this book make you cry? Absolutely. Don't worry, though. Tommy is around to make you burst out laughing. Also, add a strong serving of Romantic Josh and you should be good to go.Jay just has this amazing talent called writing. She is one of the few authors that you can tell has improved with every book she writes and has developed such an incredible knack for storytelling. Her books wills weave you through happiness, heartbreak, pain and most importantly, love.PROTIP: If you have never read a Jay McLean book, buy one. I swear you will not be disappointed.* Someone help me convince my mom to let me buy both the books in this series and the beanie because Canadian winters are cold! *FAVOURITE QUOTESa. “You took my hand in yours and you said, ‘It’s not much of a house, but you and Tommy, you can make it a home.’ You didn’t just give Tommy and me a place to live. You didn’t just save us. You gave us a family when we has none. And you gave us you. You are our home, Ma’am.”b. “No. i want you to look at the stars and realize that there’s a whole universe out there, and this world you and i live in is so tiny in comparison. But there’s nothing-not a damn thing in the entire universe you could possibly ever say or do that would make me mad at you, Becs. I’m sorry if i made you think that.”RATING★★★★★/5
