Raiders of the Rockies (Stonecroft Saga) Paperback – May 6, 2020

Just finished and looking forward to the next one, it is interesting to learn about the different Indian tribes. Characters are very well developed and adequate amount of adjectives.

The story line is fairly believable and the characters as well. Sometimes the author used too many words while coloring the picture. Otherwise it is a good read!.

This 296-page book by B N Rundell is the 5th of 15 in his Historical Western, Stonecroft Saga. I recommend reading them in chronological order because each book in the saga picks up where the previous one ends.Readers who are offended by author’s who have a Christian undertone to their writing or prefer a self-contained novel rather than an ongoing saga over many books, or a book that does not describe gory detail or sexual scenes and bad language might want to avoid this author and this series.This author is a retired preacher and a talented author who subtly sends soul saving message through his characters in each of his works. He thoroughly researches the era, cultures, animals, weapons, and more very carefully craftily uses those details in his storyline. He knows how to grab a reader from the onset, hold their interest tight, and leave them wanting more at the conclusion.Protagonists, Gabriel Stonecroft and his lifelong best friend, Ezra Blackwell have been traveling west while fighting or making friends with the various Indian tribes of the lands and dealing with dangerous people, wildlife, and animals. Nearly 2 years have passed since their adventure began with them departing Philadelphia on their lifelong dream desire to see the Rocky Mountains and discover new and undiscovered lands in the Western United States while living off the land.While they were determined to continue their journey passing on many opportunities to marry and settling down, in the 4th book, they fell head over heels in love with and married Shoshone sisters after saving their tribe from being ravaged by Smallpox.While traveling with their mates, with Ezra fishing and Gabe dressing out an Elk he just killed, a renegade ban of former trappers turned thieves bent on raiding native villages and kidnapping women attacked Gabe from behind. Their Indian scout threw a knife into Gabe’s back, shot him in the head, and as he was floating in the river and unconscious another of the raiders shot him in the side thinking he was dead. Meanwhile, Ezra was knocked out and tied up while their Shoshone wives were ambushed and also tied up.Unknown to the raiders, Gabe survives and recovers his horse with his weapons attached and searches for his loved ones.I cannot wait to read book 6 in this series.Enjoy!

Loved all these books, you can picture all that is happening ! Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys the great outdoors

I’m still enjoying the voyages and the adventures of the two intrepid explorers. As long as there are unexplored country to see, more Indian tribes to meet and more advent to be had I wil read about them.

My second time to read this book some great history and great reading great stuff Thanks Bill can't wait to read more Thanks Bill.

Great characters and good adventures. Only this comes across more preachy. There is good talks of the Bible, but starts diving into sermon territory. Instead, introducing piece by piece, we are exposed to the whole part of salvation but not much more of before salvation stages or the after. The what happens after salvation and how to keep to the straight & narrow path of righteousness. Instead, of the process being described for the characters' experience - it became more a calling for the reader instead. Not thrilled about turning something fictional and fun reading into a sermon. If a gradual learning curb was in place or came across more realistic. Then I would buy this approach but as it stands. This book put me off. Like the author was not sure how to preach while telling the story.
