I like it
I wanted a case to keep my Caran d'Ache Grafwood pencils in and I didn't want to buy thishttps://www.amazon.com/Caran-Dache-Graphite-Line-3000-415/dp/B005UIW4J2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539540708&sr=8-4&keywords=caran+dache+grafwoodI like it. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I got a perfect case and it's very nice, nice wood, nice latch. I also got pencils in it that were just fine. Not only was nothing broken, but the Royal Langnickel B grade pencils actually come in good degrees and are good for sketching. I didn't like the H pencils so much but I find H pencils are scratchy and annoying in all the brands except Grafwood and Mitsubishi Hi-Uni, which you pay a premium for. And I don't use H that much, except the 2H. The graphite sticks are the same quality as other graphite sticks I have which were more expensive. You also get blending stumps and sandpaper and two erasers, and charcoal of various sorts which I might try. I haven't drawn with charcoal very much. The pencil sharpener does look like crap. I suspect that using this sharpener might be what makes people think the pencils break easily. Also there are some things in it called 'compressed color sticks'. I don't know what these are supposed to be--something like prismacolor art stix? Or like conte crayons? Maybe I'm using them wrong, but they have very pale color and don't seem to do much. I switched them out with Conte square sticks, which fit just the same.On the downside the case is not all that useful for storing the Grafwoods in, so it doesn't suit my planned purpose. The Grafwoods are so thick that only 14 of them fit where there were fifteen pencils originally--12 graphite and 3 charcoal. However I would certainly think the case is a good value for what it contains when you buy it. Even without knowing if the charcoal is any good, I believe I got my money's worth. If someone gave to me as a gift because they knew I liked to draw, I would be happy with it. I gave it only a four star for value for money since the price keeps creeping up. I bought it for $25 and its worth that; it is still good for what its listing for now ($30) but if it goes back up to list price of $45, it's not worth that. I wouldnt pay above $30 for this.ETA: I tried the sharpener and it's actually good. M& R replacement blades fit it, too.

Great for just starting!
We got this for my boyfriend's 12 year old budding artist. She hasn't seen it yet, but we have. It's absolutely gorgeous and has everything that someone who's "...like really getting into like charcoal and like pencil... " sketching would need. Nice mahogany stained (color-not the wood) case that she can fill up over and over. The box is a little thin for lifetime use, but for a 12 year-old who's first starting out and never had a set like this, I think it's great for the money. Cheaper than going piece by piece. Has the eraser, pencil sharpener, blending stumps, and a good selection of charcoal and graphite pencils. We got this along with the book Keys to Drawing, a set of sketch/drawing pads, and the Sargent 50 piece set of colored pencils. Can't wait to see her open it and see the first sketch she makes!!The wooden box had a little chipping on the corner, but nothing a little Olde English didn't cover with ease. Also, it has a nice "brass" emblem on the right lower corner-very "top of the line" when you're 12!!

very nice
I'm giving it four stars as some of the leads were broken. I sharpen them and it breaks off. I lost half a pencil trying to get to lead that was not broken up. It's a nice starter set and you can't really go wrong for the price. I would buy this again and you can most certainly feel comfortable making this purchase for yourself or as a gift. I would buy it again. The wood box it comes in is very very nice. Any artist would be pleased with this set.

Beautiful Set
This was a great boxed set. The box makes it easy to store the set away.I've already used the pencils and erasers and I'm really happy with the quality.

Another "ARTsenal" find
Royal & Langnickel products are one of my favorites because they are great quality products for artists at a reasonable price. This handy sketching set is no exception. It has everything needed for on-the-go sketching in a nice, convenient, not too large wooden, nicely stained box with a metal latch. Perfect for use at home, studio, classroom or en plein air!

My favorite birthday gift!
My husband got me this for my birthday and it was very impressive. I'm pretty particular about my pencils but these were great quality. I LOVED that it came with a knead eraser and impressed that it wasn't the cheap kind. The case is slick and sophisticated. I see myself using this for a couple of years. (Who knew my hubby could actually get me something I love haha)

definitely a cool set.
Ok so dont do what I did. I bought this set without noticing I already own what this set offers lol. All well, still cool anyway. It offers sketching pencils b/ b6 - h/ h5 pencils. Three charcoal pencils soft, medium and hard. Comes with a white eraser and a pencil sharpener. Comes with charcoal sticks. And two blending stumps. It also comes with like 24 compressed color sticks, mostly black. And lastly it comes with a tool to sharpen your chalk/ charcoal sticks which I dont own. What I meant to buy was pastels. All well. Next time.
