Amazing Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The media could not be loaded. Having used this for a while now, I highly recommend this intelligent robot vacuum and here is why:Heard a lot of great things about the Neato D8 and after comparing all the robot vacuum cleaners out there, the D8 made a lot of sense to us. We had an older model from a different brand and man I wish I had made the switch much earlier than this! Some of the big things that drew me to it was:The D-Shape design which allows for a larger brush so the vacuum can get more done in less time and after seeing it in action it's very efficient in getting the house cleaned fast.Another thing was the LIDAR navigation, we have a toddler and an infant so it's important for us to be able to setup zones so we really wanted a vacuum with it and this one had just that and it works quite well. The battery life and ability to auto-charge, this may not sound like a big deal but if you are gone all day or are busy outside and just want the vacuum to really clean the house, it helps a LOT. It's actually pretty neat to hear it say "going to charge, will resuming cleaning later" and it actually working!Different cleaning modes - Working from home, this is important to me as I can have the vacuum clean while am working on the ECO Mode (almost whisper quiet) and have it run on turbo mode when we aren't here which comparing it to our old robot, it's that loud anyways. As for the app, it's VERY responsive and easy to use, we got the vacuum setup in literally no time at all, it was almost shocking how quick and easy the setup was.Having two little ones, this thing is a must and again, my only regret is not having gotten it sooner, do yourself a favor and grab one too!

The beginning is the most frustrating part of this vacuum
**UPDATE**I’ve decided to return this vacuum. I thought I could live with the software bugs until they rolled out an update, but I’ve hit my limit. One day about a week ago, every time I tried to start the cleaning the robot would move forward turn on the suction then make a chime sound and saying it’s finished cleaning and then backs into its base again to charge. After trying to restart, etc. I removed the vacuum from the app and paired it again which also reset the mapping and zones I worked so hard to configure. Nevertheless, it worked fine and I went through the painstaking process once again of having to set barriers everywhere it gets stuck so it could finish mapping my home. This worked fine until today. Now, when I start the cleaning it doesn’t turn the suction or brush on and just moves around like it’s cleaning but not actually doing it. I tried pausing the cleaning and resuming but which works, but then it bumps into everywhere it’s not supposed to. It’s as if it forgot the mapping. Anyway, I’m fed up and sending it back while the return window is open still. Super disappointed. Maybe it’ll get some updates soon that’ll fix everything, but I’m done waiting and will find another solution.———I’ve had three Neato vacuums (this one, XV-21 and D80) over the past ten years and have been mostly pleased with them, but this newest variant is so smart that it makes really dumb mistakes. In the past, the other neato vacuums I had did a decent job of navigating around obstacles and issues, but this guy seems to get “stuck” a lot more. And the most frustrating part of that is in order to setup a “no-clean” zone in the app, you first have to do an initial cleaning. That means you will have to babysit this vacuum and make sure you setup barriers around obstacles such as a dining table with chairs where it easily gets stuck. It also can get confused in its mapping and tried to map your entire home again if it thinks it went through a door or something which takes it forever to return to base because it goes all over in your home to find its base (see photo for example). Once you’ve completed the mapping and setup your zones, then it becomes pretty efficient and works well. And let me say, it does a PHENOMENAL job with cleaning. I can’t believe how much dust and hair it picks up on a daily basis. My only complaint thus far is with “turbo” mode which is described as being more needed with carpeted surfaces. It takes the vacuum two charging breaks to finish 500sq feet. I do realize this vacuum is still new though and therefore needs bugs to be resolved with updates, so I’m hopeful most of these issues will be worked out with future updates. I’ll update my review if there’s anything else to add.Suggestion to Neato (if they’re reading this):- Give the option to let the vacuum map the entire home on the first run without the cleaning/suction turned on. This would make it much easier to map the home and designate no-clean zones before letting it actually perform its first cleaning.- I’d like to replay cleanings in a time lapse video when I’m viewing the maps of historical cleanings.- I’d like the ability to configure different zones for different rooms/areas where I can schedule cleanings only for that specific area instead of having to do the whole home every time.- I’d like the ability to designate which such zones/areas are carpeted on the map so it only uses “turbo” for carpeted areas and then uses “eco” for everything else.- It’d be nice to customize the maps to “teach” the robot what certain objects/obstacles are on the map so it just knows to avoid them rather than dragging squared “no clean zones” over them. Think of something like the magic tool in OSX that auto-selects the outline of things in a photo editor. Even if it doesn’t “identify” the object, at least having the capability of selecting it as a no clean zone would be really cool instead of these lame squares that don’t conform to the shape of the object.- I’d like for the vacuum to learn from “problem” areas where it consistently gets stuck or has issues and for the app to suggest setting up a no clean zone around it.

I love this robot vacuum!!
About 2 years ago, I decided it was time to get a robot vacuum because I needed something that could vacuum as I worked on the other cleaning chores in my home, so I got a basic iRobot 600 series. My iRobot 600 cleaned my hardwood floors, but it couldn't handle cleaning over some of the thicker rugs that I have and would get stuck on them, which meant that I still had to use my upright vacuum. I finally decided it was time for an upgrade, and my first priority was to make sure that I bought a robot vacuum that would be able to vacuum all the rugs and the Neato has no problems with this. The D8 is much quieter than my iRobot as well. The other selling point for me with the Neato is that it can vacuum right up against the baseboards and since I have dogs and cats that is a definite plus for me.The bin is easy to empty, and I can put the Neato D8 into either eco or tubo mode. The Neato app is okay; it could be better, but it does what it is designed to do. I have not purchased any accessories yet for the D8, however, I will be getting the pet/hair brush because my daughter and I both have long hair, so between the pets and our hair I want to see how well that brush works (the brush with the D8 works great, and since I plan on running the D8 everyday, I'd rather have a brush designed specifically for hair).I wound up moving my iRobot to the first floor of my split level since it is a smaller area and is tiled, and I have the D8 upstairs for the main house cleaning. Never thought I would have one, let alone two, robot vacuums, yet this Neato D8 is fantastic for my needs.
