Another great product from Fluke
I have always loved Fluke products...from my first exposure to them in the U.S. Navy over 25 years ago to my present job in underground mining electrical work. I have used other electrical test equipment from many different companies, none compare to the overall quality of Fluke.Insulation resistance testing is a part of every electrician's job (except for the conduit jockeys and wire monkeys). Over the years, it has proven beneficial to perform Polarization Index (PI) and Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR) testing to ensure the insulation is in good condition.Performing the PI and DAR calculations, while out in the field, can be a pain... but the 1507 can perform the calculations for you, greatly enhancing an electrician's troubleshooting abilities.Overall, an excellent product from a world leader in electrical test instruments.. Highly recommended!!!

Great tool
Great tool. Wish it came with a fluke case. Comes with batteries and leads.

Great in the oil field
This megohm meter works great. The digital display is much better than the analog meter that I used to have. I work in the oil industry and have tested numerous motors on pumping units and submersible pumps. It does a great job giving me an accurate assessment of motor condition.

Love this thing!
Another great Fluke product. I had basic knowledge of using a "megger" but no idea what the cutoff was for acceptable insulation resistance values. I love the easy to read digital resistance display of this meter. With just a little research on electrical talk websites, I determined that a rule of thumb is 1 megaohm per 1,000 volts plus 1 megaohm for safety margin. Example: 480 volts being .5 megaohm plus 1 megaohm = 1.5 megaohm cutoff. In my experience so far, this has proved to be true. as I have yet to see a motor tripping overloads with more than .5 megaohms resistance to ground.Back to the meter, I love this thing! A little intimidating at first but very simple to use. I love the lower test voltages for sensitive equipment, yet having 1kv for 480v equipment. Batteries died quick but I get them free so no big deal. It comes with detachable alligator clips, just wish it came with a case but they are available for not much $. 5 stars.

A Real Eye - Opener
This is a sophisticated piece of test equipment that pays for itself in sort order if you use it to demonstrate things like low impedances from motor leads to motor frames and from transformer windings to transformer frames. In mining underground, everything is always wet and greasy, and people are hosing stuff off because of the gob buildup. When you deal with heavy duty electric motors, even the MSHA-approved packing glands don't keep all the moisture out forever, and the combination of moisture and dirt inside motors and control panls makes for ground leakage that spells death to solid-state panelboard controllers. You measure a motor that shows less than 100 meg-ohms leakage to ground and it is on the way to burning up not only itself but what runs it. Better to rebuild a $5,000.00 motor than rebuild a $5,000.00 motor and a $67,000.00 panelboard with a $3,000.00 transformer inside it.
