Karter Scientific 208V2 Plastic Test Tube Rack for 12/13mm Tubes, Holds 50, Detachable (Single)

Like the other reviewers here I needed something to hold the tubes for my API Freshwater Test Kit. I did not like the plastic holder that the API kit shipped in so I set out to find something better. Looking at the pictures for this rack I was not immediately sold as I do not need to hold 50 test tubes, just 6 or 7. Finding nothing better and knowing that others were happy with the fit for the API specific tubes, I took the plunge and ordered it. It arrived last night and put together in about 10 seconds after I discovered that the 3 levels could only insert one way thanks to a little notch that keeps it from sliding through. My mind starting turning after looking at it for a second and I decided it wasn't good enough as is. I took it out to the garage, busted out the dremel and cleared out the entire back two rows to one large opening and then cleared another gap of six holes out in the front on each of the top two panes. This allowed me to then put in all my API test solutions so I could store everything and not just the test tubes. I used a small tube sanding bit on the dremel and after about an hour or two of working on it I was able to get the lines pretty smooth with no sharp edges and it fit everything perfectly. The end result is a bit flimsier than when it started but not enough to concern me at all. If you have a dremel or small multi-tool and you want something like what I described to hold more than just the test tubes, this rack will work perfectly. I will post a picture to the side so anyone can see how it looks.

Like many others, I got this for testing aquarium water - I have multiple tanks and test them all at the same time and this helps me stay organized.Mine arrived intact and was relatively easy to put together. It's a bit flimsy though and doesn't offer much support if you're capping bottles while they're in the rack. It also doesn't line up perfectly and some of the holes are nearly impossible to get a test tube through the second level - even when everything is seated properly.The other disappointment for me was color. The pictures show a clear rack which I would've preferred. Instead I received translucent blue. This means I can't gauge my results at a glance as the color of the rack distorts the color in the tubes. If you're using this for aquarium testing, this means your ammonia test looks a bit green even when levels are perfect - I stopped looking at the tubes until it was time to pull them out and compare because this was making me a little anxious!

UPDATE: OMG what a pain in the ass to put together! But, don't give up! Once it's together it is great for testing all my water parameters at once. And because of the rows, I can pretty much test a whole bunch of tanks all at once. And when drying the test tubes I just place them upside down so they drain out. It's totally worth the price!!I'd LOVE to say this is a great product for a great price, which it would be IF I could put it together!!! It arrived unbroken, contrary to other reviewers. So, that was great, I figured out how to put it together with no directions, also fine. But for goodness sake. IT WILL NOT GO TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!! I have slid each part off and on in each slot on each side but there is one piece that will not slide past the notch. ALL the others I had to push fairly hard to do the same, but on this one, I would have to push it so hard that it would break. Not seeing how to contact seller or I would. If I force it in place it WILL break. What the hell guys! Cmon! I'll keep trying, but it shouldn't be this difficult. I will gladly rescore this to 5 Stars once together as it is PERFECT for what I want (doing multiple API tests at once).

Keeping an aquarium has changed over the years. It used to be that all you had to worry about was chlorine in the water. Now you need to be chemist, checking ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, pH, water hardness, etc. In order to do this with the greatest accuracy, you need test tubes. If you have multiple tanks, it requires many test tubes, which require test tube holders. This holder has slots for 50 tubes which is plenty for me. I have 5 tanks that I test on a weekly basis, more often if water parameters are off. This test tube holder has been a life saver for me. I can run multiple tests at once because I have a safe place to keep the test tubes while being timed. Before I bought this, I could only run 3 at a time making the process take forever. And it’s a safe place to store the tubes when not in use, tubes can dry in this holder after being washed, ready to go the next time I do any testing. Well worth the investment.

I have a lot of fish tanks, and consequently I needed a way to keep lots of API test tubes upright and sorted. This works perfectly. It's a bit flimsy, and I sometimes consider supergluing the racks in the rails to keep them from moving out of place here and there; but for the price, I'm not going to dock a star for it. Now I can fill up all the tubes, put them in the rack, and drip the testing solutions in all at once. If nobody else is home to be bothered by the noise, I can even shake all the tubes at once in the rack. Saves tons of time!

It would be nice if these were numbered to indicate what piece goes in whichever direction it needs to. I nearly broke this thinking I had to insert it and snap it up in place. I decided not to when there was no give and looked it up on youtube. Thankfully a nice person has uploaded a video with instructions, and though there was no arrow indication on my pieces, I could figure out how to put it together. Other than that, this is a fairly sturdy rack to use for my transport tubes. Thanks for making it available to test oot.

Exactly what I need for my API Test Tubes! A perfect fit.I Love that these are numbered exactly the way I remember from my lab days!I will definitely follow another purchaser's photo and use my Dremel to chop out pieces to fit all of the bottles, etc. Great Idea!I will recommend this rack specifically to others I know looking for a perfect holder.If I ever need another one, I will purchase this again.
