FirstMatePet Foods Pacific Ocean Fish Senior/Weight Control, 14.5 Pounds

Our dog was diagnosed with beginning stages of kidney disease. It is very important to keep phosphorus levels low and balanced with calcium. This is the only dry dog food that I found that had a good phosphorus:calcium ration and a low phosphorus level. It's recommended to keep the phosphorus level below 0.80% and this does so. I was able to give him this as well as homemade vegetable mix (sweet potatoes, carrots & green beans) and the combo was able to help his creatine/bun come down within normal levels. Our dog loves this food and looks forward to his meals and "treat" time. Highly recommend to others

On the recommendation of a friend who lives in Seattle and who is very well informed on dog foods, I switched my dogs to First Mate about a year and a half ago. (Note: We use several First Mate products, not just the Senior formula) My younger dog has a sensitive tummy and her tummy problems sometimes manifested themselves in her behavior. Since switching to First Mate, she is much better. She likes the First Mate so much I use part of her breakfast portion for training. As for the Senior formula, my 12 1/2 yr. old likes it and although I have not imposed a strict diet on him, he has lost a pound in the past month and a half.

I've been using FirstMate Pacific Ocean Dog Food for my Akitas for the past 15 years. The product has been exceptional. This Canadian food is far better in quality than what's produced in the USA. This is because pet food standards are much higher than required for USA Pet Food producers. I've recently switched over to Pacific Ocean Senior in order to reduce caloric intake for our current Akita. She loves it and it has proven as exceptional as the standard food.

My three year old Scottie has been fighting allergies since before his first birthday. Rx strength shampoos, topical and injected cortisone, and antihistamines, nothing seemed to bring him relief. During a vet recommended visit to an allergy specialist one of the vet techs suggested I try an elimination diet with a grain free food to rule out food allergies. I spent several weeks searching and discovered the FirstMate website. What did I have to lose? My pup was miserable. I ordered a 14.5 pound bag of Pacific Ocean Fish and after easing into a full change of diet, I threw away any foods/treats that contained grains. Taste, texture and smell seem to delight Duffy and he crunches his dinners with delight. Within two months the scratching, rubbing and licking had all but ended. We still have the occasional seasonal pollen/spore flare up, but these are easily controlled with medicated shampoo. Duffy's coat is shiny, he is happy and healthy and best of all he can take a walk without timeout for scratching.

I KNOW this is the premier choice of dog food. We have mixed it 50/50 with our old food as she gets used to it. She really does not care for it and carefully singles it out of her bowl and then eats it later in the day; but she does eat it. Also, the food is extra hard and I can envision it actually breaking off teeth in an older dog. It will be interesting to see on the day we are out of her old food!

Not much of a savings, but every little bit helps, and my dogs absolutely loved it considering its fish base (not typically their favorite). It still has some chicken fat as an ingredient which one dog still has issues with. Hard to find a weight control, grain free, non-land animal product for my highly sensitive allergy prone girl that loves to eat, while still being kind on my budget. This comes pretty close.

Great food for my dog. He loves the taste.
