From Skeptic to believer!
For years now, we've tried different detergents and soap powders and found that they all strain our clothes from time to time. Ironically, there's no way to effectively remove a stain that's been caused by laundry detergent! After having a batch of new t-shirts ruined by our so-called "green" laundry detergent (which we bought b/c Tide had trashed a previous batch of clothes), we read some very positive reviews of soap nuts (never heard of them) and decided that desperate times called for desperate measures. The idea that six dingy brown berries secured in a tiny muslin bag could clean our laundry--and leave it unharmed--seemed ludicrous. I always thought that suds were necessary to cleaning too, so it was mighty strange to open the washer in the wash cycle and see nothing but clear water. But I followed the wonderful, detailed instructions provided by NaturOli and have been more than happy with the results. Not only are there no new stains on our clothes, they actually smell cleaner and fresher than they ever did with conventional detergent. I know that some have complained that the soap nuts need an extra boost when dealing with deeper stains, but, I haven't needed to do this. A test came when one of our cats got very sick--all over a light blue blanket. I thought it was ruined, but, we washed it immediately with soap nuts and it's perfect. We have even stopped using dryer sheets. So, my reservations about Soap Nuts were completely unfounded! They are wonderful. If you're looking for a green, effective alternative to laundry detergent, give them a try.

Love, love, love them!!
I am very impressed with these little nuts!! They are working so well. Our cycling/athletic gear and towels were developing a nasty, funky smell so I switched from my natural detergent to a toxic one in hope's it would rid the smell, but no luck!! Toxic one only masked odors until we sweated, then the smell was back full force!!! (Toxic one also gave my daughter a terrible rash!!! )So being enviri-health minded, I bought these little nuts hoping they would do the trick!! And I am happy to say the stink is gone!!! Clothes come out clean and no smell either good or bad, just plain clean. As for the keeping up with the number of washes, who has time for that? I just feel the bag and when it feels like there is some extra room in the bag, I add a few nuts. So basically, I make sure the bag always feels full. Tie a double knot. Then put in a jar of warm water, (if nuts are dry) if not just toss in machine. I have accidentally dried them a couple times and no harm was done. I always hang them up after I am completely done for the day, so they will not mold. Apparently, you can make household cleaners and shampoo with them, but I havent ventured out yet. I do plan to though and will let you know how it goes!

clean clothes, inexpensive
Our clothes get clean! That's the primary point I suppose.I started making our own laundry detergent, which worked well, except sometimes when I would run out I wouldn't have time to make more. I also realized that the laundry bar soap I was grating into the mixture, had artificial ingredients and scents in it! Although it's less "artificial" than store bought detergents, I wanted to eliminate all artificial ingredients.I had heard about soap nuts online on different websites or com boxes, and on a whim bought the 2 lb bag of soap nuts here on Amazon. Started using them, following the directions that came with the product, and all has been great. It's been about 10 months since I've been using them, and I have no complaints. I did a load of laundry, then I picked up some workout clothing and it smelled like NOTHING. And believe me, it smelled awful before it went into the wash. That was my test: I smelled workout clothes, and other items that definitely smelled going into the dirty clothes, when they came out of the washer/dryer. Clothes are clean. (note: I do add vinegar to my wash as well)I did develop a system for using the soap nuts-- I was concerned that after a few uses, the soap nuts would start being less effective (if I used the pouch of 8 soap nuts for the 10th time, how would I know if they were still doing their job?). To put my mind at ease, I now use both pouches that come with the product. I started with 1 pouch filled with 6-8 soap nuts. After 5 washes, I added the second pouch filled with 3-4 soap nuts. After 5 more washes, I replaced the soap nuts in the first pouch with 3-4 new soap nuts. After 5 more washes, I then replaced the soap nuts in the second pouch with 3-4 new soap nuts, and so on. I differentiated the two pouches by putting a safety pin in one and I have a white board in my laundry room where I put a tally mark next to each pouch for every wash so I know when to change out the soap nuts.Another tip: attaching a ribbon to the pouch to make it easy to find in the wash (I remove my pouches during the second rinse cycle or before putting in the dryer). I saw this tip from another user in the comments section and it has saved me a lot of grief when searching for those pouches. In approximately 10 months I have done ~400 loads of laundry and I'm just halfway through my 2 lb bag.The only con I can think of-- my husband has no idea how to use the soap nuts and hasn't bothered to learn, which means he has no idea what to do in the laundry room without me. I'll fix that one day though.
