Incredible book in every way
This book is like none other I have read on this topic. The combination of the easy to understand narrative about what trauma is, how it lives in the body and disrupts our conscious lives, and how it can be resolved. With the powerful visual images that support the narrative this book is a deeply powerful and helpful book. Anyone who wants to understand more about trauma and what EMDR can do to help people MUST read this book. Michael's honest account of his trauma and transformation through EMDR makes it very real. Give this book to any one who might be thinking about this for themselves.

HOPE - we can heal from developmental trauma
In the new Apple TV series "The Me You Can't See" Prince Harry shows himself doing EMDR trauma healing work over Zoom with his therapist. A powerful testament to this work. In this book, you get both narrative and theory. You read the story of Michael Baldwin who suffered from panic, anxiety, low self worth for almost six decades due to trauma in his family of origin. He sought help from six different therapists before he found the healing power of EMDR and body based bilateral stimulation. His story alternates with long term EMDR practitioner, researcher, teacher Debbie Korn's expert explanation of the ways that trauma affects the nervous system and how EMDR help heals it. This book provides not only hope and insight but also a clear path to feeling better.

A must read for anyone considering therapy!
This book is a must read for trauma survivors as well as anyone who is considering therapy. With great courage Michael Baldwin eloquently shares his long, previously unsuccessful, journey to overcome the effects of childhood trauma. After finding an EMDR therapist he was at last able to fully heal and begin to lead an authentic, fulfilling life. Testament to Michael's success as well as his enormous generosity is his desire to "give back" by collaborating with Dr. Deborah Korn to create this book so that other traumatized people too might heal.In very clear, easy to understand language Dr. Korn comprehensively explains the process of EMDR and the research that supports it. Most importantly, her explanation that trauma causes (curable) injury to the brain may well serve to help trauma victims realize that it's not their fault that they can't "just get over it", and why talk therapy frequently does not bring about healing.First and foremost this is a book for clients, but all trauma therapists would benefit from reading it as well. Many thanks to Mr. Baldwin and Dr. Korn for this wonderful, extremely helpful and unique book!

Without a doubt, the most beautifully written and illustrated book on the subject of trauma.
What is exceptional about "Every Memory Deserves Respect" is that, although a short book, it thoroughly illuminates the complex subject of trauma through the eyes of an expert in EMDR therapy, Dr. Deborah Korn, and the personal experience of a patient, Michael Baldwin. The text on theory and practice by Dr. Korn is clear, concise and heartfelt. Baldwin's straightforward account of difficult episodes in his personal and professional life makes the understanding of trauma believable and accessible to everyone. The many creative and moving images, inserted throughout the text, illuminate the experiences of both the pain and recovery from trauma. These visual metaphors will imprint indelible snapshot memories in the minds of readers, providing them understanding and solace for the emotional journey of life.

Essential resource filling a gap in informing the general public, clients & clinicians alike
This book accomplishes what no other has… a clear and hopeful view for clients, the general public… and I would add… for clinicians who may not have understood the depth, effectiveness and integrative nature of EMDR.As a Psychologist in clinical practice, I found the book’s readability to stand out as the exact resource that I will be making available to my clients. I have had traumatized clients reluctant to, or unable to read any of the many great books (some tomes) on trauma… But clients WILL read and benefit from ‘Every Memory Deserves Respect’.Dr. Deborah Korn gives a wonderful exposure to clinical thinking and practice application of EMDR with the integration of trauma-informed elements within a safe/trusting therapeutic relationship… as well as acknowledgement of attachment perspectives and the multiplicity of self. The balance of client experience, that Michael Baldwin so illustratively and poignantly presented through his narratives and evocative visuals, provided a powerful EXPERIENTIAL component … an essential element at the core of EMDR.Dr. Korn elaborates on the crucial aspects of client motivation and readiness for treatment. Through included extensive resources; she provides a bridge of accessibility to those curious about EMDR, those needing questions answered if ambivalent, and for those who are in treatment to be grounded by the hopeful message of trauma relief that is woven throughout this truly beautiful book.I predict that ‘Every Memory Deserves Respect’ will be a sustaining source to the curious general public as well as a ‘clinical essential’, enhancing the availability of EMDR to those individuals who can be unburdened of their trauma residual.I heartily endorse ‘Every Memory Deserves Respect’,Mark D. This book makes a difference!
I'm an EMDR clinician and am thrilled to have a book I can recommend to clients and their loved ones that helps to explain trauma, EMDR Therapy, and that offers so much hope. The fact that this book is written from two perspectives - both the person who experienced trauma and the clinician - makes it personally relevant and educational to the trauma survivor and lay reader. In the short time since the book's release, I have already recommended it to several clients. One in particular, who was unable to see the connection between ongoing trauma experienced over many years and current symptoms, now feels there is an explanation that makes sense!
