Durable, warm and water resistant
This is a high quality winter coat good for work and every day wear. It has been warm, dry and durable. There are more pockets than I can use. It washes up well, too. I have worn it in temperatures just below zero and in wind. It does a very good job blocking the wind and holding in the heat. One note on sizing: I’m 5’9”, about 165lbs. and I went with the large, tall version because it was all I could find at the time. This led to some difficulty zipping it up as the zipper is a few inches below my normal reach. The large size works well over my insulated overalls, but I would try to get a regular length next time to avoid stressing the zipper and myself.

Simply fantastic
This coat, parka, jacket.... whatever you want to call it is fantastic. For this review, I will be calling it a coat. For the upcoming winter season I needed a new coat. My last one did great until it fell apart from over usage in many Midwestern winters. My the stupid thing rest in pieces. So, Rather than going on to wal-mart or (insert name of store here), and deal with people, lines, my habit of compulsive buying (one day i went out for soda, came back with a laptop and a new dog. Forgot the soda. True story.) I figured i would purchase online from Amazon. After hunting around the website for a good bit, i found this, and purchased it. (as well as a dog collar and some DVD-R's that I probably really didn't need). When i got it, i was impressed. Oh my the pockets! So many! Not to mention it looks great... seriously. People at work won't shut there pie holes on how great the coat looks. It's very warm. Seriously. For as thin as it is, It has kept me warm so far this fall season in tropical Michigan. Word of caution to potential buyers of this coat: People may think you work for Caterpillar. Had a gentleman approach me and tell me that he use to service caterpillar equipment and shook my hand. I thought at first he was just reminiscing about his days of working for the company. Then he asked me if "Dave" still worked there. I said, "wait, who?" That's when it dawned on this gentleman that i was in fact just an imposter, poser if you will. He walked away confused and i think he muttered something under his breath about how i wasted 12 seconds of his life or something. Poor guy. At any rate, don't waste any more of your time with my review. Buy this! I promise you will not regret it. Pro's: Pockets - lots of them! Reflectors on front and back so you don't get run over or something. Warm Hoodie stylish Cons: None ... go buy the thing already. gesh. UPDATE: Two winters of use - This was my coat for 2013/14 Winter (one of the worse on record for my area) AND for the 2014/15 winter. It's still ticking along as if it's new. Unlike my dog. It likes to use my floor at times as its designated bio disposal location. I have asked him to stop, even offered the four legged thing money to stop. He just sniffs me and farts. Right, back with the coat review: It still looks new, as if I just bought it yesterday. It has not disapointed me. Unlike my laptop, that died a horible tragic death after if fell off my balcony and bounced on the concrete below bounced like 3 times and then landed in the yard, right on top of a rare pile of my dogs magical bio waste. The one time the thing decided to use the outside as it's bathroom destination, my laptop finds it. Fantastic. Summary: Laptop dead, Dog is confused on where it should go. Coat, awesome. Buy the coat. UPDATE: Thanksgiving 2016: The dog says hi. I think. I don't speak Dog. But he just barked when i started to type. Ok, so I bought this coat three years ago. It is still in tip top shape. Still like new, still awesome. I named it Gary. Gary the awesome coat. Don't judge. You probably had an imaginary friend when you were younger. Well my imaginary friend is my coat, Gary. If you are still on the fence about buying this, i have a few words for you. First, get off the fence. That is just awkward. Unless you need to be on it for the free wifi signal you are getting from your neighbor or something. This coat has paid for itself over the many years i have owned it. I can't stress to you enough to just buy it. The fit is good, easy to clean and looks pretty good. Stay warm my fellow internet shoppers! LAST UPDATE! (7/17/2018) It's July of 2018. My coat is sleeping comfortably in the closet waiting for winter to spring upon us once again. While it still has some time to slumber before it is awaken, I am comforted to know that it still is in fact the best coat that has ever been created by mankind. That's right, i went there. I have not had to buy a new one for five years now. Half a decade. I'm pretty sure I can call the coat a good purchase now. Dog is good. Farts a lot. He has faults but i love him. Coat? No. It doesn't fart. It's not alive. Still in perfect condition after five years. So, after half a decade of reviewing the coat, if you still are not unsure, then i would just recommend moving to Arizona. I don't think you have to deal with coats then. This will be my last update of this coat. I am now retiring from this review. I wish you the warmest of winters and a happy and healthy life my fellow amazon shopper!

Just buy it!
This jacket is amazing. It’s waterproof and windproof without being bulky or heavy. The number of pockets is astounding. My normal size fits comfortably with room for a hoodie underneath. It’s also long enough to keep your butt warm in the cold without getting in the way. I have worn this at -14°F in active wind and snow with a zippered hoodie beneath it. I was surprised at how well this jacket kept me warm and dry. I’ve also worn it at 30° and not been too warm. I like this jacket enough that I have personally recommended it to others who work out in the elements. Everybody has been happy with it.

Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.
This was purchased to replace a 20+ year old parka that had finally given up the seams and this cold spell was a perfect time to fully test out this jacket. The quality of the jacket seems to be exceptional, both in material and in workmanship. I would easily rate the construction with 5 stars. This jacket should last a good while. In design, it has more than adequate pockets, maybe too many. Zippers are everywhere. The big front pockets and hand warmer pockets were not as large as I would like or am used to, but they are adequate. A little bigger would be appreciated. I would fully agree with one review that the collar is stiff and is in the way. I would happily trade a pocket or two for two collar snaps to keep them out of the way. So for the design, I rate it about 3.5 stars. Many of the reviews rated this jacket as very warm, even to quite cold temps. Walking the dog in early mornings in breezy, below 10 degree F. weather needed more warmth. The material, although very strong, did not completely stop the cold wind and I needed an extra layer below the jacket to keep warm. My old jacket never had that issue. This jacket will likely serve me well for most conditions, but I will need to be extra aware of actual conditions before stepping out to ensure that I have any needed layers. For warmth, 3 stars. All in all, it is a good jacket and I am pleased. A little extra wind block or insulation and a couple of collar snaps in trade of a few zippered pockets would make this a 5-star.

Love, love, LOVE!!!!
OMG! This thing has so many pockets! I owned a green version of this same coat in previous years, and it never wore out. No issues with zippers breaking, tears, or anything else. The old coat is still perfect. After losing 130 pounds, I needed to find something that fit better and made me look less like David Byrne in every music video he did in the 80's. I downsized from a 4X to an XL. It fits like a glove and is warm. I still have room to wear a fleece hoodie underneath it for added warmth in the Minnesota winters. The oversized coat allowed for too much wind circulation beneath the jacket. The properly sized one does not have this issue. That is not the fault of the coat. That is all on the purchaser. Make sure you buy the right size. There are like 14 pockets in this thing! My biggest problem with that is trying to remember which of the pockets I put which belongings in. That is not a complaint. I love being able to have pockets to carry everything around. I just have to improve my recall to remember what went where. The hood is fully removable with a zipper. This is a personal favorite of mine because most winter jackets (including this one) makes a terrible racket when donning the hood. Hearing aides pick up the sound even more. I only use the hood on extremely cold days, and rely on a double-knitted beanie and scarf most of the time. (Did you know that -40 celcius is the same as -40 fahrenheit? I learned that firsthand by living in Minnesota.) The reflective stripe is a nice addition for walking the dog. Since it is dark when I arrive at work and dark before I leave work, the reflective stripe is a nice addition to remain visible without looking like a construction worker. Buy this coat. You will not be disappointed.

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT COAT
Item received well packed and an early delivery. Material is heavy weight and appears that it will withstand just about any weather or work condition. There are numerous pockets good for almost anything. Trying on the jacket I note almost immediate warmth. Hood is substantial and although it probably will not keep your head warm, it certainly will keep out the wind. Overall and well built good looking winter coat. Now for the CONS: First it is the sizing chart from CAT. If you measure yourself and lets say you come out with a 2X per their chart, don't believe it. Get the next size down. Other buyers noted the same thing and I am glad I did as a 2X is way too large. Second is the color. The coat illustration page shows two colors: black and what they call graphite. If you click on the graphite, you will see a gray color. Shift to the black and you can and will see the difference in color between their black and graphite. Well, I ordered the graphite color and upon receipt I had to take the coat outside in natural sunlight to see if I was right in what I was seeing. I received a coat that is black in color but is tagged "graphite". I thought I would be getting the nice looking gray coat. Nope, I got the black. Now don't misunderstand. The coat is typical CAT manufacture: excellent material, good workmanship, and value for what you spend. I don't think you can get something better for the price. It is just that (yea,I'm whinning a bit) I really wanted the gray one. That said, if you are needing a good winter coat that will withstand both casual as well as work environs, I recommend this as a BUY.

Fit is somewhat oversize. Great quailty coat though!
This is going to be a very warm coat even by Oregon standards. We don't often get into the teens but certainly the low 20's and I am confident this coat will perform well. I am comparing it to my current coat that isn't half as nice or lined as well and it has kept me warm in these parts for the last 8 years. Now to your concerns; Size: I am just under 6 feet tall and weigh 260 but you would never guess I was that heavy as I carry my weight evenly distributed between my neck and my knees. I would ordinarily buy a XXL but after reading these reviews I opted for the XL. Good thing too because I was sure I would be swimming in it just seeing it in the box. It does have some bulk but when I tryed it on it was perfect in the sleeve length and around my gerth with room for a heavy shirt underneath for added insulation. I don't expect to ever need any extra in this coat. So, if you are built like me you should be right on one size smaller. If you are similar height and weight but have skinny legs, wear size 38 pants and have a large belly you might want to order your size. Feel: It has a heavy canvas feel, somewhat stiff but I think it may be due partially to the waterproofing they claim to use written on one of the 4 tags I found. I am guessing (hoping?) it will loosen up with use/washing but it is not a deal breaker. The inner lining is silky smooth and the elastic around the cuffs soft with snap positions to seal out the drafts so all in all it has a comfortable feel and the fleece lined collar and removable hood make it cozy even. Pockets: 5 on the right side 6 on the left side with the one on the sleeve. The pockets behind the bottom two in each side are slits and they are cut at a strange angle that makes using them somewhat awkward and there are 2 pockets on the inside chest behind the outer ones almost like a suit jacket. Great place for a hankie I guess or a cell phone if you don't use the shoulder pocket for that. Then there are the 2 I discovered by accident inside the zipper flaps on each side at chest level. Those surprised me! Zippers: Are plastic but not the cheap stuff and the double duty front zipper comes in handy for sitting in a car. It allows you to unzip a few inches compensating for the stiffness and bulk of the jacket or an emergency "pitstop" by the side of the road. Color: Mine is "Graphite" which just means light black (not gray). I think that covers most of the comments and questions I read about this coat. I like it a lot already even if I haven't been able to wear it around lately. Today it's in the low 60's (strange for this time of year) and that is just too warm for this coat. I'll post an update if necessary but I don't foresee anything negative to tell.

Like being cold? Don't buy this jacket then.
Toasty warm. That's how I feel when I wear this parka. I get in to work before the sun comes up and it gets windy. This is the warmest piece of winter gear I own and it does its job flawlessly. I have more pockets than I need, I love the removable hood and the fleece lined collar and hand warming pockets, and I often find myself wishing I had taken it off when my car warms up. I like the beefy zippers because that is the weak point of almost every other jacket I have owned. I get tired of taking them to tailors to have them replaced because everyone is using cheap zippers now-a-days. I don't think that will be a problem with this jacket. I have gotten several comments from strangers about how serious and nice the parka looks. I tell them it was money well spent. This jacket is 90% perfect in my opinion. I know it's just a nit-pick but the hand warming pockets really do need to be a bit larger for gloves. Maybe even angled slightly. When it's just my hands, no problem but I wear gloves a lot because I am one of those people whose hands get really cold and trying to get them in the warmers is a bit of a struggle. And there you have it. The only thing I can think of to improve the jacket. I hope to enjoy this parka for many years. Cat did this one right. Update: 01-31-21 My house just burned down yesterday and my jacket didn't survive the fire. After 6 years the jacket held up flawlessly. No wear points, broken zippers, split seems. I used it for chainsawing, camping, daily wear, and it took everything I threw at it without one issue. When I got up this morning the first thing I did was order another one hoping to get the same longevity and comfort the last one provided. This is truly an incredible coat.
