Awesome book about one of my favorite people
If you love Fela, read this book. It’s like he is speaking to you. So funny and consuming. Learned so much about him. Before reading the book, he was a GOD in my mind. This book brought him down to earth a lil bit, given how his life changed after the death of his mother. Also I was disappointed by certain aspects of his relationships with his women. BUT not one blemish is on his image to me. I Have so much love for him. Still a GOD, a human one. I’m so incredibly grateful for his life.

Funny, haunting and thought provoking
I classify this book as funny given Fela's disposition to being broke while he wanted to be a real life Solomon Templar. It's haunting because the various ills perpetrated by regimes in Africa in those days can be seen in a different form nowadays. Same story, different chapter. In his Confusion Break Bone, he said he sees His country 'Nigeria' going down. Stating, how will a country be generating revenue but the citizens have no access to basic amenities. The thought provoking aspects of this book borders many subjects. How does a well read person like Fela refuse to accept the implications of his lifestyle (sexual). Religion is another aspect that provokes thought given the fact that Fela was brought up in a Christian household and ends up searching for the meaning of spirituality thereby subjecting him to meandering of the mind like the situation of the fake bulletproof voodoo vest.As a listener of his music (instrument arrangement and political diatribe) , this book gives an insight into how he thought process and the various things that influenced him.

Amazing!
I love the book. It's a deep dive into Fela the man in his own words. His thoughts on corruption and poverty in Africa and finding a way to fix this injustice is a lasting imprint on the kind of man he was.

As someone who loves Fela's music its.
As someone who loves Fela's music its amazing to read a personal depiction of Fela's life. I thoroughly appreciated the various aspects of his life and thinking (as well as his wives way of thinking) that were highlighted here. At times humorous and times sorrowful, at times I was angry with him at times I felt sorry for him. To literally be able to hear his voice throughout the book was an amazing addition to my musical relationship with him.

Amazing....A Must Read!! Go Afrobeat!!!
This book had a very big impact on me. I have been listening to Fela's music for a long time, and after reading the book I understand the meaning of the lyrics much better. He went through so much for defending the rights of the Nigerian people and Africans in general, and for fighting the corrupt regimes. I really admire him. I also learned a lot about the Nigerian culture which was very interesting to me.

Good read for sure
Good read for sure. It gives one the history of Fela and really puts you inside the situation and the struggles that he had. Sad story, but I'm glad it's been told. I've read 2 Fela bio's and this is the best in my opinion.
